My plan was to head to Europe for 4-5 months and live in one city per month eg Amsterdam in August, Barcelona in September, etc for Amsterdam, Barcelona, Prague, Vienna and maybe Lisbon.
Since I was looking for furnished one month rentals I was hoping to spend $1200-$1400 on average for rent over these months since I know Amsterdam would be the most expensive while Prague/Vienna/Lisbon were supposedly cheap. After researching online for a bit and emailing many owners via holiday rentals and owners direct I'm kind of dismayed that my plans maybe ruined. I think the cheapest apartments for Barcelona/Amsterdam were just under 2000 Euro a month. I then checked Prague, which I heard was a cheap city and rentals were even higher for worse looking apartments, I then checked Poland where my family is from and the rentals were around the same price when I know all my relatives pay peanuts in rent. Is my plan to live in those cities at those prices even feasible? If yes how can I find cheaper accommodation. Keep in mind I know NO ONE in any of those cities. I am kind of skeptical of craigslist even though I found my current sublet in NYC through it, I had to sift through so many scams. |

Those price are off... the problem with internet searching is that when you look online, in english language, you will only find prices for foreigner. The real prices are lower.
I once rented a furnished flat in Paris (which is more expensive than all those cities you mentionned) for one month for 900eur, which is less than what you just mentionned. Instead of looking on expat announcement, try to find local websites (which might mean looking in local language or hiring local VA to do that for you). |
