Taking That Leap of Faith

How did you guys overcome that fear of failure? For example, I have student debt of around $20,000 and do not have a job with around $1500 cash. I have a healthy credit rating with a $6000 monthly limit, more than enough to get up and running.

I am at the point where the only thing holding me back is paying for the startup costs.

If anybody ever started their muse with a relative situation, what I would love to know is how you got through it. What did you do, think, and/or remind yourself that allowed you to succeed? Who did you talk to?

I imagined what would happen to me if I didn't do it. I looked at the people around me still waiting for life to begin. I looked at the retired old ladies on the bus who worked all of their lives to collect social security and still can barely afford bus fare. Then I imagined where I would be if I didn't take the leap and that was enough. I have a job, but everything in my life that I have done that was great involved a risk. No one cares if you fail as long as you didn't fail because you didn't try.

Last year I gave up my job, went for it in a massive way. This Christmas just gone I was homeless, broke and nearly lost access rights to my son. Without proper planning, backup plans and the Four Hour Work Week, you can fall flat on your backside and when you hit the bottom, the streets can kill you.

I managed to get in with a friend and slept on her floor, in between looking for jobs in London. I'm now back in the rat race because I had no other choice, i very nearly lost everything. I had no safety net in place, no proper plan, just the notion that "sod this, I want to be my own boss"...

The Secret. I used it, It was like praying and I don't believe in god.. But I do trust in the universe and the unseen forces. I fell on my backside because I didn't make it clear in my mind what i was going to achieve.

Before you make that jump, draw it out on a white sheet of paper, your aims, your goals, your mission and stick to it. put it up on the wall and look at it every day, close your eyes and imagine already having it and don't ask how, or even try to figure that out just yet. just know you're getting it.. Don't stop dreaming your dreams.

I'm sorry you had such a bad bump down the ladder. I am glad a friend helped you out, and I'm equally glad you were able to say "Sod this!" with self-respect despite the inherent detriments. I think the fact that you ended up "homeless" (as you put it) can feel very very bad, sometimes -- one gets the idea that your society as a whole simply doesn't want you. "You're not worthy," is the implication.

But really, ALL humans are homeless. Nobody owns the planet, and if you look at our more natural state, we all would biologically prefer walking around and lying out in the rain, living the nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyle. In that context, we'd "make" our own home with our hands, and the act of succeeding in a business office would be quite far from our minds. The effort we put in, would have direct consequences on our wellbeing, and on the wellbeing of our peers, friends, helpmates. That's the REAL human condition.

To me, that's why people don't do well in jobs. They don't so much "fail," as more likely "want to be real."

In fact, there's an internet site (I wish I could find it) where a philosopher suggests, that you haven't lived until you have woken up on all five inhabited continents not knowing where you would sleep the next night. It's something like "the classroom of life" trip that he suggests we should all go on. Have laptop, will be deep.

So there are two types of homeless. There's the down-and-out destitute who doesn't get the concept that he has his own destiny in his own hands, and who perhaps is addicted to a substance, or is mentally imbalanced. He needs our aid and succor. But then there's the making-up-his-own-mind who does get the concept that he has his own destiny in his own hands, and who therefore chooses something other than the rat race. Congratulate yourself that you are a member of the latter variety, and you always will be!

Hello there. I don't know what part of the world you are in, but if you are in the US, let me know. I have been doing my business which is not my real muse for about 3 years and have sustained well over 100K per year. This is not to say everyone can do this( i came from an aggressive sales background) but I am willing to at least give you my insights on what I did.
