Just do it : do a sign up page where people can enter their email and then get some sample or free report.
Prépare a short free report that you will send to those people who sign up. |

Yes, that is what I have done - offered a 10 top tips sign up newsletter to gauge interest in the product. Now I am trying to make the switch from newsletter to selling the actual ebook.

Selling a limited number is def. feasible. People in Internet Marketing do it all the time. "I don't wan't this secret to get out to too many people so I'm only selling XX copies". Likewise you can put up a fake error page as the sales page.. ie "Oops, there seems to be a problem here. The webmaster has been notified." Most people wont even consider that they were part of the test.. they'll just assume the website is broken. Or just put a page up that says "this product is still in development, enter your email address and be the first to know when it is released" that way you can recapture those customers that you lose while testing. You can test it on niche message boards. Say its a skateboarding product. Find the top 3-5 skateboarding boards on the web, put a link in your signature, post around a few times (not advertising your product.. just helpful info) let that market it for you. If you can spot $5 you can get your product tweeted to 100k people on a service like fiverr. If you have a product with mass market appeal that will drive all the traffic you need for way less than adwords. |

I'm currently developing a Speed- Reading system for college and masters degree students, and I "micro tested" the program by doing the following, which is still in progress.
I set up a free speed reading test course for some students to come to. and I taught these students to speed read a long article in one minute and had them answer questions to show comprehension ability. they were all impressed by the system, so I asked them if they would be interested in learning to read full length text books in under an hour with 80% comprehension. resounding response was YES! I then asked them to purchase my course for $20. Simple as that. about half of them ponied up the money on the spot. Although this isn't an honest microtest, it shows me that If I can create a youtube video for my site that teaches the long article speed reading portion of my course first, it will greatly increase my sales. |

What are you testing? If you're testing your product, the only way to test it is to have it. Even if you have a great niche, if your product is crap you're not going to get great results. If you're testing interest in your niche then the statistics you found on Google should provide enough evidence to support that it's something people are actively looking for.
There's a few things you could do. One of them is writing a small e-book on your niche and offering it for free along with a mailing list opt-in. Just a thought. |
