Default Stuck with Muse Testing

OK friends. Here is my story.

1. I picked a muse (consumable).

2. Got a website (newbie mistake - went overboard on the website and spent $800 with all bells and whistles). With an idea of expanding offerings if this is successful.

3. Got some quotes from manufacturers.

4. Started PPC on 10/31. Budget: $25/day.

5. I got not that great a response, started with 10 clicks/ day and kept increasing every day.

6. Here is the downside - no conversions (more than 120 clicks in 5 days with 0 conversion). 90% bounced from the first page.

- My lessons are:

- My landing page is terrible - 90% did not want to see more.
- PPC is too expensive (at almost $2.75 / click)
- May be my product is not that attractive to begin with.

I have a chemistry / manufacturing background. So, I really want to get into a consumable type muse.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

MH

You're getting fucked by the supply:demand ratio and paying through the nose for it because you're advertising to everyone as opposed to a thin niche.

Use Google's keyword tool and find more niched keywords (ie, longer and more specific search terms), aiming for <$0.15 per click with a Global Search Volume of 0 - 10,000 and no more than 20,000 direct competitors.

Stay small, my friend.

Definitely look for more specific keywords!! 2.75$ is very high and probably too large for what you are offering!

If you want help on the design of the site you can post it here because for the moment we can not help you to say if your design is well and if a lack of conversion could come from there...

Good luck

Let us see the site.
It's a bit pointless writing the landing page sucks if we can not check it...

Thanks for your suggestions.

I'll look through ppc to figure out how to target a smaller niche. I am hoping it is an option on ppc to pick demographic.

I rarely check these forums these days so can't promise I'll be able to help with any follow-ups but here's my advice:

- I can't read your headline so it's wasted space
- No unique selling point - why are you the best at what you do?
- I can't tell why I should want your product or what it actually goes
- Did you mean digestive tract?
- If you're sending the PPC visitors to your homepage there is little or no text so you've probably got a low quality score and are paying a higher CPC than necessary
- Your design is a bit dated which might be affecting the bounce rate
- Bullets need to focus more on benefits to the customer - what's in it for me?

Read Ca$hvertising (book)

Also check out the following tool if you're trying to figure out demographics:

http://www.plentyoffish.com/demographicInterests.aspx

Obviously you won't be able to find people who have an interest in digestive supplements but I'm guessing you have some sort of idea who your market is already so hopefully it will be of some use.

Hope that's of some use anyway

Cheers

Jon

I'm on your homepage and don't see a "buy it now" button - i've lost interest already

Your funnel is too long and distracting - Too many "other" options for me to click on without ever seeing the product. - Focus on this ONE product - don't worry about the next product until this one works. TF sold one product branded two ways.

Your blog has no posts yet the link to it is in prime real-estate (top left)

Same testimonials on every page is a little shady - get a php script to randomize

get the affiliate stuff off the main navigation - if you want affiliates join an affiliate place

Make your banner click-able -- i keep forgetting where the "home" button is

and TEST!

Well the problem you may be having is that your PPC campaign is not set up properly besides the layout of the site.

For PPC you have to use negative keywords. Google allows you to use up to 10000 so get as many negative keywords in your campaigns so your ads don't show up in irrelevant places.

Second your CTR rate is bad now so your CPC is going to be high. Get some negative keywords and then fix your site up then bid high in the beginning to get your CPC better then change your position in your campaigns and your CPC should come down.

Change the area your ads show up as well. Only choose to show ads in the US and good Europe area otherwise your getting a lot of clicks from third world countries that aren't going to buy your product or simply can't.

Seth and Pharmsj:

Thanks these are very valuable comments. I've suspended the ppc to work on the site.

My problem is every time I need to make changes, I have contact my elance guy and it costs money . Not sure if I should bite the bullet and learn php.

I'll keep plugging until I get it right.
