Seth Godin is my nr1. Try his blog first, that should give you several days of reading, if not more. Then read Purple cow.

Jay Abraham is the advertising prophet. Whatever he says, do it. Get all the books you can by him. He's an absolute fricking genius!

I recommend every book in the Personal MBA.

funny thing is, the marketing books in Personal MBA are the following (lol):

# All Marketers Are Liars by Seth Godin
# Permission Marketing by Seth Godin
# Getting Everything You Can Out of All You’ve Got by Jay Abraham

so A++ to the posters above. They are quite good recommendations.

Seth Godin is excellent, but a bit granular. If you want to build up a solid foundation of marketing know how go with the bibles:

Philip Kotler

-Principles of marketing
-Marketing management

For a cheat sheet, read

-Marketing Insights from A to Z: 80 Concepts Every Manager Needs to Know,

Also, a good read for the professional in a hurry:

Ries & Trout: The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing:

My advice:

Read (and understand) the Kotler - A to Z and the Ries/Trout - 22 laws, and you will have an MBA level of knowledge about marketing. Then, if needed, get the bigger tomes (Principles of marketing, Marketing management) as reference works to have in your library/laptop/kindle for whenever you need to look up something specific regarding marketing.

If you find that you're still interested in the subject, and want to immerse yourself in the field further, start reading Godin (as suggested before), Jay Abraham, Kiyosaki, and whoever floats you boat.

There, I just hacked marketing for you. :-)

I'd trust a website that was featured in business week and mentioned by ramit sethi, and not to mention it's going to be a book this year, but maybe that's just me.

Hope somebody finds it useful.

+1 Jay Abraham

I'd also add Perry Marshall just to see how quick and cheaply you can get profitable traffic and ask the market for a quick answer to almost anything.

Man, I must get around to more than cursory reading of Seth Godin... Just worried I'll end up walking around wearing white robes and drinking Kool-Aide like the above posters!
