wildsoul has a good question. You could record audio yourself and make cd's if you needed to for nearly nothing as long as you had a decent microphone on your computer. I'm all for doing things as economically as possible!

My step son runs a professional recording studio, and explained that the best mics are condenser mics. But usually those have a large stereo-type plug for professional audio equiptment. Last year, Samson invented the first condenser mic for use with a computer. I bought one, and it's amazing! My step son tested it out w/ me and gave it a big thumbs-up!

PS: I recommend buying a small desktop stand for it, and a "pop screen" if you tend to pop your "p" sounds like I do.

Sony Soundforge is great software to use for recording.
version 6.0 is better than the newer version (8.0).

You can hire a local recording studio.
I had a meditation CD recorded, mastered, & produced at a studio that specializes in spoken word recording. The cost was $150/hour, plus fees for graphic design and CD's. My 4-track CD ended up costing about $2500 for 1000 copies. What I learned about the process was very valuable (which is why I made my first product with a pro.) But now, I'm more about taking what I learned and doing it myself.

You can also find professional recording studios & engineers for around $60 (which is what my step son charges.)

==> It's not the recording time that's expensive. It's the editing. Expect at least 4 hours of editing for every 1 hour of recording time.
