Default Google Voice Now Active

I have been a user of GrandCentral for a long time. It is a free service that was designed to let you aggregate all of your phones (home, mobile, office, etc) into on number; you get a GrandCentral number, and when people call it, it rings all of your phones, has its own voicemail, you can transfer calls to your other phone (like from your home/office to your mobile if you have to leave).

Well, Google bought this service a couple of years ago, and they have just rebranded it, today, as Google Voice, and they have added new features, like VOICEMAIL TRANSCRIPTION and conference calls.

It also has low rates for international calls that are even cheaper than Skype.

I ditched my land line a few months ago and hacked one of the DLink/Vonage adpaters to connect to Gizmo (a VoIP provided that lets you do VoIP-to-VoIP call for free), and then GrandCentral can talk with Gizmo for free, so I have a free home phone.

It is currently only available to existing GrandCentral users.

With how good the Google Voice Search feature works on my iPhone, I'm very curious to see how the voicemail transcription works.

Any idea of what the time limit is on their voicemails for transcription? Could be a really nice way to call your own VM and leave yourself (or your VA) short messages to deal with later in text.

This feature is so cool. I've not utilized it yet, though.
