Default Partnering with a friend to build a Muse?

Hello all,

I'm curious what you guys think on the subject of partnerships. Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

I tend to feel a strong urge to partner with a friend because I struggle with procrastination, but at the same time, I'm worried that things could go bad and ruin the friendship. I'm good at web development and running web servers, and my friend would be good at marketing/SEO and writing content.

I was also thinking that partnering might be kind of pointless if you're using VAs. It seems that VAs would be kind of like partners, which could be a good thing in helping me stay productive and focused by making sure I utilize them properly.

Partnerships or VAs or both? What do you think?

Thanks,
James

It's a slippery slope. I'd say all 3.

The one thing, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is that you and your friend have to be on the same page, otherwise it will implode on you.
The VA's wouldn't be useless, remember, you need the VA's to free up your time for other things.

In addition, no one says, it can't be done alone. I've got one muse I'm working on with my friend, and another I'm doing solo. Once I finish the general structure of my solo muse, I'll hand it off to the VA's for refinement.

The one with my friend, I'm pretty much the lead person. Then when we finish getting that one down, it will get handed over to the VA's too.

There countless ways of working it out.

I hope this helps. and good luck!

The biggest reason I feel people want to partner with someone is because of FEAR. They are afraid to do it on their own. They are afraid to task the risk on their own. They are afraid to spend their own money. And most of all they are afraid of being successfull on their own.

Thin, I am not saying this is you just a little food for though for eveyone on the board.

Drew!

I agree. I definitely notice that a large part of my motivation to partner with someone is out of fear. It's got nothing to do with my capabilities.

One thing I've been thinking about is that building a muse is very non-linear. Some hours are worth a lot and some hours are worth nothing. Partnering with someone makes it hard to know what is fair, especially if its not a 50/50 agreement (i.e. based on time input).

It seems that overall, working on your own and just hiring people for their skills is probably the most fair to everyone. All the hires are exchanging their time for money linearly after all.

Also, hiring and managing freelancers/VAs is probably the best way to stop procrastinating of all

well, I wish I could find some friends to help me with some projects. Some of the most successful companies were started by two people (MS, Yahoo, Google, YouTube, etc)
