I'm wondering, Is Google adwords ppc still the way to go for testing the muse and for a primary stream of traffic?

Does anyone know of the best strategies for using that tool?

It all seems pretty confusing for a newbie like myself.
Ultimately we all want the best ROI on our invested advertising dollars, right?

So what are the guidelines for achieving that goal?

I know that there are a few different sites out there that all say they are right when it comes to the best adword strategies... Do any of you have opinions, ways to simplify this and ways to get the best ROI possible, etc?

I just finished Michael Tasner's Marketing in the Moment and something caught my eye that I wanted to share . Inside the new book he talks briefly about how PPC and Google Adwords are extremely inefficient in terms of ROI. However, he spends nearly the entire book explaining how to harness and integrate marketing efforts on Facebook, Twitter, your blog etc etc. Interestingly enough, he is bold enough to say Facebook itself is soon to be a dinosaur that the way of the future are niche social networking sites that revolve around a communal idea (like being a member of the NR aka the 4HWW community).

In my humble opinion, avoid PPC/Adwords as inefficient and focus on social media. The reason being is people today don't want to be talked to, they want to be apart of the conversation. They want to contribute to the experience. Furthermore, "they" are more willing to buy from someone they know as well as respect and trust as opposed to someone they respect and trust as an expert.

@ Musetester- Thank you for that information. I started a google adwords campaign today, for my startup, Best Seafood Supply. I must admit, although more expensive CPC, Facebook may be the best route, especially for my market; the high-end consumer.
