Thanks for the message there. Sadly North America has far more non-tariff barriers to importing things like that. They just don't get through customs. The people in charge don't want that many fuel efficient vehicles in the US that aren't manufactured there.
On a side note, there is a huge hobby business there in the US doing that. Many people who come to Burning Man have electric bikes they use in the default world.
I was going to tell you that I saw a Japanese product in a magazine that might be a good one for you to export to the U.S.: an electric bicycle that retails for about $1500 in Japan, according to the article. Because these are just bicycles, they might be exempt from most of the regulations associated with autos. And you could fit a lot more in a cargo container than mini trucks. Something to consider.
