I'm looking to create a few micro sites for some of my muses. Which I can put up quickly to test ideas out.

I'm well versed in web development and traditionally use dreamweaver & photoshop for projects. However i'm looking for a tool or tools to help me build rapid simple sites which arn't necessarily blogs. I've tried wordpress which seems very good indeed but its aimed mainly at blogs and im not sure how flexible it is.

Are there any other tools out there like wordpress but which have a more general purpose aim?

Thanks

There are plenty of free templates that will let you get sites up pronto, particularly if you are well versed in dw. And wordpress does work as a website. Once you get the first one customized, you could just change the header and colors.

Wordpress IS suited to blogs, but you can very easily setup the home page to be a "page" and not "posts", ie, a static website that you can write as you like.

This is what I am using for all my projects now ... it's really easy to use. And you can plug in virtually any free theme you like to get the skin that you desire. Makes changing the look a one-click process.

Thanks for the replies.

Problem with templates is I can never really find one I like. End up spending more time browsing templates than i do doing creative work.

I think i'll perservier with wordpress!

I know what you mean about the templates. I decided, for the first time in my life, to download a template. I did and I used it but COMPLETELY changed it. However, it was nice to have a structure up there. It made things go faster. So basically take a look at the layout of the page and you can make major changes.

But wordpress is good. But you'll spend lots of time looking at design templates for that, too.

I've set up my first website with drupal. Before I had them built or used macromedia contribute.

Including learning to use ftp (with cyberduck), which I had never done, making a logo with gimp (never used it before) it has taken me about 6-8 hours total to get going: www.shorthandedsailing.com
