Just wondering how you make $ from blogs (as stated in other threads) when people use RSS to view them sans-ads?

Just curious (as I can't be bothered to do one!), however perhaps others may be interested when they're "getting started"

cheers,
Thor

Yeah I've wondered about this too. I read most of my blogs using RSS and rarely see any ads.

It kind of reminds me of how TIVO lets people easily skip commercials and now you get those fancy ads during the show that take up 1/3rd of the screen telling me that The Biggest Loser is on next.

Typically, the best money is in building a list from readers, not from ads.

If you don't want to build a list, try doing blog posts that include text links to affiliate products that relate to your blog's topic (use a URL masking script, tinyurl, or snipurl).

However, if you really, really want to do ads, do a google search for RSS+adsense, and you'll find out how to include ads in the RSS feed. It's not done a lot because most people aren't aware that it can be done...

Making money from a blog is really an art. You really have to narrow a focus and decide what links will bring in some income. Once everyone hears you could make millions with a blog, millions came to the internet to set one up. You have to define your market.

The generic blog isn't going to cut it and you have to really update it frequently. Getting indexed is more competitive and while affiliate links are great and do bring in money, getting the hang of it is not easy. And there are some web savvy people who do have the hang of it. So give it some research, first as to what target audience you want to focus on and what they find valuable.

I would have to believe that this is not a very effective strategy. I use google reader daily, and the main reason, aside from having my threads aggregated, is to avoid ads. When they do show up, they are annoying and intrusive.

If I want to read an entire post or see more, then I can go to the actual blog and see the ads there. Polluting an RSS feed is does not create good will.

the best info I've seen on creating money from blogs is from an Aussie called Yaro Starak. check out www.becomeablogger.com
Also read Darren's stuff at ProBlogger.net
both are excellent
