Manufacturers for small (10-100 pcs) runs of clothing?

Hey folks - three years after reading The Four Hour Workweek, I'm finally preparing to embark on my first muse.

For this muse to happen, I need to find a manufacturer (ideally, dropshipper as well) who can create clothing batches around 10-100 pcs. I've spent some time on the forums at Alibaba, but have major concerns about the quality assurance of many responses.

Has anyone ever done something similar to this, or would they be able to point me in the right direction for researching these manufacturers? Any tips are welcome!

You can find the same sort of thing in LA @ their fashion district.

If that fails you, google "Sourcer's Guide Book" for leads.

But the basic process of doing this is, getting a prototype made locally (by yourself, or someone you find on craig's list or posting an ad @ your local fashion college - nearly every big city has one), and then taking the prototype to the local maker and getting it made.

I'm in the process of doing this now.
