I work in sales at Circuit City. I'm currently employed full time at five days a week. My goal is to quit sometime in January after finding and creating a successful muse. Before then I'd like to go from five days a week to four days per week with an increase of pay of at least 15% (an almost $2 raise). I've asked this before to my manager, but he chuckled and retorted that we need my leadership available. I really am getting drained of this job so I'm trying to all that I can get it up to par so that I'm not only NOT getting calls at home on my days off but at the same time creating leadership and maintaining the numbers our store needs to remain profitable.
What are some pro-active steps I can take in order to achieve this within the next four to eight weeks? How can I get from where I am to where I want to be and still maintain the current level of respect I have now? I can't work from home with this job, but something needs to happen soon!

Create a contest between the people you are managing that will encourage them to build leadership among themselves.
Anyone who gets their job done at least up to management standards without calling you in the next 6 weeks at home, gets to go on a free celebratory dinner that you pay for.
This will encourage them to help each other.
Then take a poll at the end and find out who was the most helpful, the MVP. Give an award for that.
Brainstorm what other leadership qualities you want them to demonstrate and create a measurement and prize for it. Ask them what prizes they would be willing to work for.
My 2 cents,
Rebecca

I just received a 16% raise going from LM to ULA. Reason there are allot of positions not being filled because no one wants to do the right work.
I suggest you see what BestBuy or someone selling similar products would be willing to pay you. If more go back and see if you can get a matching raise if not well then you have a option.
If you want to show others leadership give them responsiblity and then check up on it and request reviews ever few days. Put the people in an experience where they will swim, then in a position where they feel comfortable to swim, then throw them in the deep end and watch them either swim or sink. If they start to sink save them. Your job is not to drown the person but to ensure that person succeeds and in success you will win what you want.
