View Full Version : Cater to one niche market? Or many of them?

Hi all. This is my very first post here, so forgive me if it's a silly question; but hopefully it's a valid one.

I'm considering signing up with Worldwide Brands, to select companies with whom I can sell products via drop shipment.

The first step will be choosing which products to sell. I understand that I should select niche products, because those have a higher expected profitability than do mainstream items such as ipods, laptops, etc.

So my question is: would you suggest selecting a niche market and catering entirely to that particular market, providing a wide variety of items that would interest them (including items with both higher and lower expected profitability)? An example of this would be starting a store for specialty bmx bike parts, and carrying all manner of parts which would cater to that market.

Or, would it be better to have a store that carries all manner of unrelated products, with the only common link between them being that they are all niche products (albeit from all manner of different niches) that have a high degree of expected profitability for my company?

Sorry if it sounds silly, but I'm inquiring in all seriousness.

Mike

I'd start a shop with all kind of items for a certain niche. It's easier to become the authority site for a certain niche, than the authority for a site with products of profitability. ;)

So what you are asking is whether you should start a niche site or walmart?
