View Full Version : Validating a market's viability

Hi - just purchased the audiobook version of 4HWW, and listened to 75% of it while driving today. I had what I think is a good product idea for a muse, but I'm not sure about the market. (I have lots of circumstantial evidence that says the market is there, but no hard proof!)

The market is for web designers who are wanting to move more into the programming side of things, but don't have the necessary knowledge of databases (which seems to be a big hurdle for many of them, based on conversations I've had). My product idea is a training course (either DVD or computer-based video) that teaches database concepts - how to build one properly, how to hook it to a web site, etc. (I have both a strong background in programming/databases and in teaching college, so I have the presentation chops to do a good video.)

Should I put something up on eBay as the book suggests, or is there another/better way to test the viability of the product? (Perhaps offering a local seminar and seeing what the response rate is?) I don't want to spend the time to create the product if the market isn't there...

You can validate your market by making a list of keywords people would be searching for - I use this tool:

http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/

Read Muse Math in the Reader's Only section - http://fourhourworkweek.com/wms/members/members.php

This will show you how! Good Luck!
