I am in the process of developing my muse and would like to test one domain name possibility against another to see which attracts more traffic.

How would I set this up? Run 'sample' ads on google or other?

Thank you, in advance, for your replies.

Setup two ad variations for your ad group. Use differnet "display URLs" for the different ads. They can both actually point to the SAME URL if you like.

Decide which is best based on click through rates.

Don't get too hung up on the domain. Buy both of them, they are cheap.

People worry way too often about the domain name they are choosing, myself included, but what are you really considering here? Are you wondering which one people like the best? Or maybe you are thinking one is more memorable than the other? But did you consider the fact that one might be better for SEO purposes?

Again, buy them both, dont get too hung up on it... I suspect both are fine and very similar, or you would have already chosen one of them... do some tests if you like, but don't stress about this... put your real testing efforts into your copy, both on the ad itself and on the page.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!!

The best domains can be remebered easily.

I agree Sven... to an extent.

But, consider the fact that you probably aren't buiding amazon or yahoo or myspace, etc...

Whats most likely is that your visitors will find you online, click a link and barely notice the domain name. You will add them to your list (if you are smart), and you'll email them specials once in a while and again, they will click a link.

I have bought so many things online, but I honestly cannot remember the urls/domains, of any of them. Only the big ones.

However, its funny that I still remember your domain Sven :) ... I remember the name, mistervee ??? I think... ??? I could go look it up on the forum, but thats not the point.

So... errrrrr... I guess I might have to agree with you Sven.... almost.

Why almost? Because, I don't think your domain helps you in SEO as it does not have keywords in it, creating keyword rich links back to your system.

So, "what is the best domain?", might depend on your objective, your market, and if you plan on selling to people only once, are trying to build a brand, etc, etc, etc...

But I still stand by my earlier post... DON'T stress over it... And besides, I don't think your domain helps you in SEO as it does not have keywords in it, creating keyword rich links back to your system.

That's very true, early bird!

I was thinking of off line situations. I have www.windsteer.com on the side of my boat and car. It illustrates the subject and can be remebered after seeing it briefly.

To put this a bit in to context, I once saw a courier with an emailadress on the side of the car that was something like this: herbertajansenspoedkoeriersbvba@ belgadoeonline.bl If you would want to get in touch with them, could you?

So for offline communication I think it is worth to spend a little time on a good domain. Especially if word of mouth is important, as in my case.
