Hi all,

A question about reselling goods bought at wholesale:

I've identified a product and a market to 'transplant' it into. I've also found a wholesaler for the product. What I essentially want to do however, is re-name and re-brand the product to make it more attractive to my market. I will effectively be promoting a specific application of a more general purpose product. Does this come under the umbrella of 'reselling'? Or is that more of a licensing situation? I.e. would I need to negotiate that particular marketing with the wholesaler? or is it all fair game?

Cheers,
Lach

It's not reselling. the wholesaler will have nothing to do with this...it's the manufacturer you want to contact to have them do an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) agreement with. All a wholesale does is buy from the manufacturer to deal with retailers/resellers like you. Sometimes manufacturers will deal directly with retailers, but once they get big enough, they use distributors/wholesalers to do that. Wholesale (and OEM) purchasing will likely require significant investment if you're looking to rebrand the item.
