Hi,

Just found this post:
http://www.jamesbrausch.com/?p=835

James explains what he does to get snail mail while living in different locations. He uses service called Earth Class Mail (http://www.EarthClassMail.com).

Looks like they email you with pics of the paper mail you get, and you can select the ones you want to read. After two days, you receive scanned versions by email.

He also has his birth certificate, titles to cars, and other important papers archived safely at the climate controlled secure warehouse of Earth Class Mail (great idea!).

hope this helps,
-Jose

Ah, yes, they're great. I've recently started using them as well. If you pick one of their regular street addresses, then they will also accept packages and remail them.

I prefer PaperlessPObox.com

Do you prefer it because you have tried Earth Class Mail and have specific reasons that paperlesspobox is better?

I have been using Earth Class Mail since I quit my job and went backpacking in SE Asia mid March '07, it was called Remote Control Mail then (coincidently I had not read Tim's book, was it even released then?, but I had made many of the realizations that are covered) Their customer support has been excellent and helpful with any questions. The service works as advertised, and it really fits in well with the whole portable office culture. It does to paper mail what VOIP services d for the phone.

This service was a critical for me, since I had just quit my job, and a lot of important paper mail was coming in to take care of. Having my family or friends handle this would not have worked well.

While everything is working well, they are active in making improvements. The sorting and management of letters is a little lame. You don't get custom folders or labels, but if you are keeping your mail light it is not too difficult to sort through (or pay someone else to manage it).

One service that they are working on that has been delayed is cashing paper checks electronically. This feature would have saved me some minor hassles. Hope they get in up and running soon.

Also, while it is mentioned to reduce your mail as much as possible, I do agree with that with exception to your bank account(s) that you receive your income. My reason is that many visa applications require multiple proofs of income, and one verification method could be your original bank statements. Copies in any form are not usually acceptable. If you order copies from the bank they look just like regular printed copies you can make yourself and no amount of authentication, stamps, or seals will make up for it. Earth Class Mail will hold onto the physical mail for you (as part of your standard fee usually), so you can have your bank statements mailed and held securely just in case you do need them.
