Hello all,
I am a Pro Poker player inspired by the 4HWW to travel. I am currently living in Costa Rica with plans to move to Hawaii next.

There is a huge Argentinian population in Tamarindo, the city I currently reside, so I am very interested in visiting but don't want to miss anything in between. My idea is to leave Oregon, my hometown, and drive to the bottom of South America while playing poker the whole way.

To do this I need a reliable internet connection. I assume satellite is the only option. Does anyone know of something fitting. The internet can not cut out, a loss of the internet would immediately result in the loss of thousands of dollars.

Thanks all in advance!

A satellite connection will be the only thing you could acquire that will work across multiple countries, but in of itself it is not necessarily that reliable. Weather and the path of your antenna to the satellite are major factors in the quality of the signal and latency within the connection. If you try and play on a cloudy day under trees you would probably be better off trying to sit beside some cafe in the middle of nowhere and steal their spotty wi-fi.

I would start planning your path down and start looking for locations that will have reliable connections and focus on playing only at certain places, rather than wherever you are at a given day. It's not as fun or carefree as you might wish but if you want to ensure that you don't timeout at an all-in moment your best bet is to ensure that you are in places where your connection won't fail you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. Not what I wanted to hear though :( . Maybe in the future there will be a better option so I will just follow your advice for now! Thanks

I think a satellite connection will be too expensive. As mentioned you could which places have good connections. Most probably there will be cibercafes or maybe better, places where the young go to play games online which may have better connenction. Some of them have websites. Also there are websites to search for cibercafes.

Also, in many places (at least in Argentina) there are free wi-fi spots in bars, restaurants, public places like squares. Maybe the quality of the connection is not as good as you need I donīt know.

Don't think I'd risk WiFi for this. If you connect to the wrong network someone can steal all your info, including passwords. From there it's a short step to stealing your funds.

If you can't go hard-wire, don't do it.
