View Full Version : Out of a couple of hundred thousand people

By now, he has sold a couple of hundred thousand copies of the book. What I find amazing, although perhaps I shouldn’t, is that only 202 people as of now have bothered to sign up and take advantage of this board. Anyone else find that bizarre? 1/100 of 1 percent? This is why you never ever have to worry about competition. Just go do it! There won’t be a million people trailing after you.
Just an observation.....:)
I just want to thank Tim for turning all of my business ventures and life upside down in only 4 days. Thank you, thank you! I owe you Big Time! You are one cool guy! Thanks again.....
PS. You have brought excitement back into my business life and life in general. You have kept me up late for four nights implementing all of the things that you you teach. This is some fun stuff. The kicker is I am already seeing results. How cool is that? My question for you is; How do you turn it off? LOL

yeah i was thinking the same thing, although some people might be a little slower than the rest of us :)
ive already done more in the 1 month since ive read his book to achieve my goals than i did in the 3 years its been since i graduated college. geave me the swift kick in the ass that i needed and it was refreshing to read a book by someone with the same outlook as me.

Great job!
I'm doing the same!
I think a lot of people on this forum are actually taking action to achieve their goals.
It's great to see!

Ok, I feel a whole lot better...:) Was wondering if anyone was ever going to post....LOL Glad to hear that you are doing so well! That is great!!!!!
I can totally relate. I only read the book last Sunday, but truly have gotten more things done since then than I ever imagined. As of Today, I have off loaded 90% of my business and as just a very rough estimate I will have brought in over 100 new clients by the end of next week. Will have to see, but it could actually end up being more. I pulled 3 all nighters to get here but today has been very relaxed.
If someone had told me that this could be done in 6 months last Saturday before I read the book I would have flat out said they were nuts and laughed at them. If they had said it could be done in 5 days I know they would have been certifiably crazy and then laughed at them.
Well, I have been laughing pretty much all day in disbelief. :)

Welcome to the dance floor. You are going to have fun!
Speaking for myself, I had probably 7 muses in various stages of play. 3 have been test marketed with a backlog of about 10 others ready to go to testing and development and maybe 20 more rolling around. I already have several business's up and running, so I don't have a 9-5 to escape. Although, I have changed my title to VP of develpment as per Tim..LOL
It was just a matter of me refocusing my energies in a big, big way. The book sure has done that!

I realized I have a friend who is an expert in a certain manufacturing industry, and that I had some experience with market research reports in that same industry from my first job out of college, and put 2 and 2 together :o plus I had saved the brochure (with TOC) from that report in my portfolio, so I already had a roadmap. I am outsourcing someone to do the "bones" of the report, then my friend is going to add the meat. The one thing that scares me is there seems to be zero competition in the area, so that could be really good and/or really bad at the same time...
I am trying to concentrate on ideas revolved around what I know - and I have been eliminating some of the "bad" ideas per the testing/keyword research.

I don't have any muses, but this books has got me thinking a lot about potential muses. I just started my own corporation for when I get out of the military, I want to do web design, though I am just starting out with it. I am hoping I can eventually set it up to have some employees and it almost runs it self eventually. Other than that, I still need to come up with a couple of good muses.

So many people are going to buy the book, and then do nothing with it.
It's common with "self help books", tho why this one is in the self help
section at Borders, and not in the personal finance section, I'll never know.
Unfortunately for many, it requires work to implement the plan and suggestions in this book, and that's what people want to avoid immediately.
They'd just rather go with the status quo.
However, that's good for us that are implementing the ideas. Less competition <very big grin>

Studies show most people who buy a self-help book never finish reading it. 4HWW is a New York Times best seller, but even if it sells a million copies, and 500 000 people actually finish reading it, and maybe half of those people will apply any of it at all (eg. cut back on email, skip out on a few meetings, etc) then I'm guessing several thousand might try to get a muse up and running, most of them will quit at the first set back, leaving only a few hard core ass-kicking revolutionaries (that's us) . More community than competition.
That said, Guru Timothy Ferris didn't invent on-line sales, so if you're concerned about competition, there was plenty out there to begin with. Don't let that discourage you though. It wouldn't be any fun otherwise.

I can't remember where I read it but the idea of competition comes from a belief of scarcity. If you come from that belief it can be hard to succeed in anything. That is why so many self help books start with first saying you have to change what you believe before you can do the stuff needed. Robert Kiyosaki always has his books set up in a specific order of BE DO HAVE.

I agree! With the member numbers steadily rising, I can only imagine how much help this will be in a month or so.
Out of sheer curiosity, I checked out the stuff Tony Rush was advocating...wow. No bueno. There were multiple sites claiming it was a big, almost legalized pyramid, and others saying it was just the best thing ever. I think after reading, i'll pass up all his whimsical life adventures and do it ethically.

99% of people aren't unhappy enough with their situations to actually take unfamiliar actions and change their lives. I'm not worried at all about competition. That makes the folks here co-conspirators, not competitors.

You're right how many people are afraid to take action. It's very sad. My life has taken a bunch of right I call "abrupt right turns" -- I think I'm going in one direction in life, and things intervene to send me in another direction. Everytime I've had that happen, I've ended up in a better situation than I was originally headed to. So I can speak to how life often turn out better

This is all interesting to me, because I think it's inevitable in any field of endeavor, and I see it over and over and again whenever I enter a new community. There are a few "superstars" at the top, a few people just below them (people who have done it but aren't superstars for whatever reason), and then "the field" of people who are trying to figure it out, but don't actually DO anything. It's not surprising or unique at all - it's kind of like "conversion rate" for your muses.
I'm one of the rare few who's taking action (I've passed test phase and am now halfway through creating an eBook). In my case, even though I'm highly motivated (I shed some tears of happiness when I saw that my muse garnered interest), I had to deal with some doubts and fears before I took action. I'm still dealing with them (like - what if my test stats were a fraud? from that thread; I've since researched and found out they're not).
Really these things shouldn't matter on an individual basis. It's not whether or not 1% of the people who read the book can do it. For that matter, it doesn't count whether or not you CAN. It's whether you WILL. You have nothing to do with the 99% of people who aren't willing to try hard, or even try at all.
Once I took action, I had my muse running its test within about 24 hours. The hard part is getting the eBook done, but I expect it to be done by this weekend, at which point I'll be generating real sales and I'll know exactly where I'm at. Real-world feedback; there's nothing like it. And it's what separates those who know from those who don't.

I'm very new to this whole thing as well. I actually read the book while working at Costco selling doors for 10 hours (LOTS of down time!). After reading it in it's entirety in 2 days, I finally bought it and read it again! I am really excited about everything Tim has to say, and thanks to this message board, I'm even going to take Feumet up on his offer and order the Muse Blueprint! I read the freebie stuff, and it looks like just what I need. I'm a single mom, and I have experience with computers and adminstration stuff, but not much in marketing, website design, etc. I'm also learning a lot just reading this message board, and I hope to start implementing all of it very shortly! :)

Have not read this thread for a while. Glad to see some very smart people here! Way cool in my book. It all boils down to the fact that is really never crowded at the top. I saw a great interview with Dyson, the inventor of the Dyson vacum last night. I now use TV for good rather than Evil...LOL He had some great things to say. I will post some of the tidbits on my blog.
Welcome Shauna, sounds like you get it already! This is a good thing. Best of luck on your Muse.

Was that Dyson on The Big Idea? That was awesome! I'm blogging about that show Donny Deutsch is the best. His shows always leave me pumped up. Funny thing I never would have thought about paying $400+ for a vacuum but the Dyson is worth every penny! :-)

I would just like to add to this that I am quite excited to see people doing what it is that few can "DO". And that is taking initiative. I have always been by myself on this track to success and have never found anyone who really SEES what I want to accomplish. I see many here that are engaging and in depth in what they want to accomplish (outside of their current status) and that is GREAT!!!!
I hope to build relationships with many in here. Thanks!!!!

Great thread! I am going to be a college freshman this next month at Simpson College. I finished the book a few weeks ago, and have been brainstorming muses ever since, but have yet to take much action. I first identified my lack of action as a monetary thing, as I have always been a tightwad and need all the money I get my hands on for college. Now, especially after reading this thread, I believe i can overcome my own shortcomings and make my muse happen. Thank you to this awesome community!!
Action Steps: Already have hosting on hostmonster, so i will use dreamweaver (or open source program) to create page, test on ppc, buy high def video camera, make my informative dvd and do this. I want to be part of the 1%, not the 99%!!
Risk: < $1,000, worst case, and i will still have a nice HD camera!
Reward: Being financially secure while still an undergrad at college! Being able to live my college life to the fullest!
Even if this muse does not work out, I will keep trying. One successful muse will pay for 5 duds in a matter of months.
And I desperately do NOT want to work during college, slaving away at $8 an hour if I'm lucky. I detail cars now for $7 an hour, and ever since finishing the book and all I can think about now at work is my potential muse, and not having to work next summer when school is out.

Well, now that he's hit "New York Times Number One Best Seller" I think the total number of adepts will increase twenty-fold. But will the total number of adherents increase similarly, or will it be the case that 99% buy the book and just piffle it away.

I was very suprised how few people are on here and I am sure quite many more bought the book. The ratio is pretty low, but I do not expect it to go up that significantly.
I am about 1/3 or half way through the book. Normally I can go thhrough 1000 pages in a day but I am taking my time with this one. I actually spent a few days so far on the dreamline. I'm about a 100 pages in an only wish I found this book 4 months ago. Although deep down I knew alot of these ideas I never seriously thought about them nor took any steps in implementing change.
I left my former job and spent the last 4 months basically sitting around letting my savings spill like blood from an open wound. With the cash I had and the time I had I could have went around the world and back. Only now have I taken steps in the right direction, but what is amazing is that no matter what happens or what happened before now whether its a new job or a new pet project the *Goal* has changed.
Its no longer about being the fat guy in the red BMW or having the big house and driving the benz and playing golf at some point. Its about mobility, freedom, and simplicity. Its no longer about going up the corporate ladder or being promoted. I almost worked myself to death to put someone elses kids through college and making someone elses dreams come true for what? so I could end yup exactly where I started only now I was older.
I am a pack rat by nature and a huge time waster. I love technology, gadgets and had games and toys, and gear and whatnot. I have been amazed how the more crap I get the more time is lost and the more work goes into taking care of the crap. Now everything from my video games to my electronics except for anything that I can use to relax or learn something such as my music station or guitar, or my art books in on craigslist.
Love the book love the ideas in it.
However I have found that replacing bad habits with good habits is hard and leaving the comfort zone is even harder. Breaking the 9-5 mentality for me is also killer as is not filling my day with useless tasks.
I made alot of posts here today but I am making an exception today. I am just excited and this is still more productive then standing downstairs with my friends around the garage drinking beer and talking about who did what and crap like iphones or gossip.
I am just excited that now my work and time feels like it has purpose, and the purpose is to become free.

I have not been back here in quite sometime! To say I have been busy is the understatement of the year. You are more than welcome to shoot me a private message with specific quesitons. But to answer you one question. it is only $9.98 per month for now.
The new site is up and running finally (we have been so busy building sites for other people that we just now got around to redoing ours...lol )
(please contact Feumet directly) to take a look at the new site if you like.
We have a version that does work with Macs. It is actually being upgraded as we speak and the latest Version shoulbe be ready by August 31, 2007.
We are on Version 1.83 on the Windows side. Comparing the first release to what we have now, there have been vast improvements, but then again, that is what is great about the Technology that we use!!
Hope this helps!
Best of Luck on your Muse by the way!
PS... As far at the ratio of people here versus reading the book. I would say that it is and will remain less than 1/1,000th of a percent or close to it.
I know that I have found with my customers, that once they find their Muse and have the information they need to get it going, they are so busy working on their Muse and with clients that Forums are way down on the list of things to do...... which is the way it should be.

Hi there, first time posting but loving the forum. I came on today to see if there were any recommendations for VA services, because I find eLance and Guru very un-user friendly, if thats a phrase!
Tim's book has swept through my colleague and client base and actually replaced "E-Myth" as the most important book on business on the planet, according to my partner Judith, who is a VERY successful serial entrepreneur and ex-accountant. She went to California to study with E-Myth so if she rates this book.....
I just want to encourage you all - I've been a serially unsuccessful entrepreneur all my life, and while I was into the internet from 1995 when I registered my first domain name and created my own website, for our record label, I never realised that you could make money online!! Somehow I was so cynical I never signed up for one single "internet marketing" ezine till 1999 when I was given "Striking It Rich.com" by Jaclyn Easton - still a great book btw.
I started signing up for affiliate programmes, building a list from a very simple site, and writing an ezine about my own adventures with trying to learn to make money. Back then I only wanted to earn £2000 a month and I thought that I would be so happy if I could!
I also trained as a life coach, at the same time, but realised very quickly that a) I didn't want to help people with their lives and b) it's bloomin' hard to market a generic coaching business.
However, people started to ask me to coach them around the concepts I was learning about, and writing about, and from that The Money Gym was born. It's now a six figure plus business, with my ebook selling well and the real book selling on Amazon. We have five coaches and have created at least 100 people who are now free, and over 10 millionaires.
Not that impressive?
It's all been done in my spare time, as I had two small kids and had to earn a living, as I have largely re-invested any profits back into the business, to make sure it grew and survived and that I could do it my way, with integrity.
I've also had some monumental failures, like the time I bought a half million pound hotel "no money down" - after reading a Russ Whitney book, and I tell you, if it hadn't been for those little bits of affiliate / internet marketing, ebook income, I would not have been able to pay the bills for the year after that "little" failure.
The Money Gym is just moving into a position to pay the three partners a really decent regular salary without rocking the foundations - none of us work in the business, but on the business.
One day, we will have the option to sell it if we want to, for many multiples of the turnover/profit.
So keep at it guys, it's not only possible but probable, if you read the right books, don't give up and do the work.
Warm regards to all
Nicola

Greetings all! I agree that (unfortunately) most people will pick up the book, think 'this is great' and put it on the shelf to collect dust. I just started reading the book today, and I love it. I'm already determined to USE the information and make myself a life instead of a living.
I weaned myself from the tv news and reading the newspaper (I do still enjoy the crosswords, but now I just buy crossword magazines) several months ago. My friends and family thought I was nuts when I decided to 'boycott' tv. I got tired of there being nothing on but bad news and reality shows. At first I thought I might be really missing something important, but as Tim says in the book, if it's important enough other people will be talking about it anyway. I think it's been about 9 months now - have I missed anything? Nope. I'm blissfully ignorant of the daily dramas.
I've started checking voicemail once per day and avoiding meetings over the last few weeks. I do believe I'm less stressed and more productive because of these small things. I'm working on the email thing - I think I can accomplish that by not opening Outlook until 11am since I get distracted by the email icon a lot. I also get interrupted a lot since I work in a cube, but I'm working on my "how 'bout NO" response :)
I don't have any ideas for my muse yet, but I intend to have some before the week is out. I think the important thing is to realize we're not alone in our desires for a better life, and a better life is not going to be found in a cubicle. Just knowing that other people are doing it is sometimes the push we need. It also helps that I just got back from vacation in Key West, FL and have been scheming on how soon I can go back.
I'm a newbie here so I plan on reading much on this forum and hopefully contributing where I can.

Interesting how the weaning from information media happens to different people. My parents are both retired print journalists, and they're absolutely obsessed with news now that they don't have to "make" it every day. They read blogs, online newspapers, subscribe to the printed copies of three or four, constantly watch CNN for new breaking stories, regularly catch "events" live like a launch of the Space Shuttle or a Presidential news conference, tape their nightly analysis programs and play them twice or three times to catch all the minor points, write emails to their friends about the news, check their emails six times a day ...
... ack!
And I'm living with them. I just lock the door to my room. So far I haven't missed anything, and if I do I'm sure they'll call me to watch it on TV the second time 'round. :)
