I have up to 200K to invest and am looking for businesses that are already automated to a great extent, very legitimate, wholesome, 100% real and true. Ideally in areas of real social benefit to others.
Any comments or ideas on how to find or accomplish this would be much appreciated!
Well, you can look at one of the various websites that offer running websites for sale. There is a lot on offer, prices vary a lot.

Thank you for the links.
I suspected that running these websites involve a 'crapton' amount of work. Just like any other businesses.
Than, is all this Muse stuff just a dream? a gimmick?

Not all websites are a ton of work, it all depends on the business model it was built on.

IMO the muse should be something that you know, enjoy, and would like to learn more about.
It is a lot of work to set up and run a website, so you don't want to be dreading having to work on it.
So the benefit of starting a muse from scratch is that you can tailor it to what you like doing.
One man's "hard work" is another man's "play".

. . .and I add a BOO-YAH! To this. . .Bigtime true!

I again very much agree. . . and add that is it virtually impossible to start from scratch in the internet game with the big players and their deep margins.
I just posted to Phillip this:

The days of making money on eBay or buying inventory and then selling it are loooong gone!
The smarter way to building a truly "muse-like" company is to find the suppliers/dropshipment companies like us who are willing to work with you.
You work at building the traffic, and we do the heavy lifting.
I have built the infrastructure in:
waterproof, crushproof hardcases
www.milspec-toughgear.com
scuba and snorkeling equipment
www.k2scuba.com
www.k2snorkel.com
and blowout sporting gear
www.flipilicious.com
You can find a host of folks that will fulfill shoes, electronics, patio furniture. . . .the sky is the limit.
Look at:
www.worldwidebrands.com
and
www.doba.com
for ideas of stuff to sell. . .
and then either build or buy a website. . . and do the hardwork of standing in front of people with money (the traffic part)
Much good luck to all!
2011 is our turnaround year!

The problem with drop shipping is your margins vs the bigger more established companies.
Doba might be a good idea...they also sell and integrate an e-commerce site for you.
Remember though you still need to do SEO...and lots of it in order to get traffic. Without it your dead in the water.

I want to slightly disagree with this. It depends on the muse. The whole point is to automate or outsource as much as possible so you don't have to work on it (too much). Otherwise you just have an online business (which can still be useful as you can work anywhere) but it isn't a muse.
If you have little cash and are new to muse making - it can be a lot of work to set up though.

My 4HWW Brother is right!
Yes, your margins will be small versus the larger competition. . . and that is because:
You dont have to hire the unproductive and inattentive staff playing on facebook when they should be working. . .
Overhead of a warehouse, lights, phones, computers, scanners, scales. . .
Negotiation with other manufacturers, suppliers, vendors, dealers for product. . .
Negotiations with UPS, v. FedEx, v. other shipping modalities. . .
Insurance!
Being the fulfillment operation on the other side of the phone ain't a walk in the park. We are representative of the supplier that you find on DOBA and Worldwide brands and this is why you are not getting 10% over cost. . . and please don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.
I am more saying that it has grayed my hair to build my company to this size to be able to fulfill and dropship for my affiliates whom run their muse-like companies.
. . .the grass IS greener on the other side of the fence. . .but just as hard to cut.
My .02, Hope this helps,
Tevis
PS. ANY company that you start will be hard work for the first 3-5 years. After you company goes from infancy to adolescence, you can THEN begin to AUTOMATE and ELIMINATE.
