Sounds quite lucrative if there are tens and thousands of users on the itunes store. I am going to put on a short clip which is part of my audiobook, but there are so many different divisions I'm not sure which, where and how to do it? Got several links. I have an audio book, as in educational material/career training, not a music track. It's not really a podcast either, we might do that later, the podcasts are just free right? I'm trying to put a clip on for $1.

Is anyone experienced with this? How to set it up and attract attention, and how to list the URL as well? I'd need to put in a jingle right at the beginning and end, announcing the URL too?

Trying to save time if anyone knows this and has a rate to pull this forward and cut down on my learning curve.. please let me know.

An audio book / mp3 track isn't an application right???

Thanks for your interest in the iTunes Store. To submit an application to have your own content added to the iTunes Store, please visit the iTunes Labels & Marketing page at:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/go/application/

Apple evaluates each application individually, so it may take longer than we'd like to get back to you. But don't worry - we will review your application and contact you if we are interested in adding your content to the iTunes Store. Your application will be kept on file for future reference, so there is no need to submit it more than once.

Thanks for writing in. We do distribute spoken word albums but not audio books. Sometimes people upload lessons, lectures and self help tracks for distribution but they are sent to the spoken word section of stores and not the audio book section. I apologize for the inconvenience. I am not sure if audible.com accepts audio books that do not come directly from book publishers but it might be worth looking into. Thanks so much.

How do you access this spoken word section of stores? in tunecore?
Do you create an account first? where?

not sure if this applies -- http://www.higgs.com/publications/affiliate-itunes.html

What about CDBaby? Is that only music?

I think by "application" they mean you are filling out an application, you are applying to submit your audio book to iTunes. Also, I think there are some podcasts that people can pay to subscribe to...I'm not 100% sure though.

Where do you apply for an account? Is it also the same account if you buy songs? It's so confusing:confused:

It looks like the first link you posted is the place to start. If you continue on tothe next page they mention the option of using an Apple-approved aggregator, you might want to search for one of those. If not, then phone apple directly and I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.

TuneCore and Discmakers both allow you the option to release a digital single (which is what you want). However, I very much doubt anyone will buy it.

And I'm an independent musician, so I've released a half dozen projects on iTunes -- this is something I know something about.

However, if you really want to try it it won't be that expensive of a mistake. Maybe 30-40 bucks or so all told.

Are you simply trying to test the itunes store market for your audio book by releasing the portion of it for $1? Would this be a way to make some money while promoting the sale of the full audio book?

While there are a ridiculous number of customers on the itunes storefront, there is also a saturated market for almost everything to offer through the itunes store. If indeed you are trying to promote the sale of the full audio book, I would suggest offering the portion for free, much like how you can read a chapter of a book on amazon before you buy.

Again I am curious to hear what your intentions are in doing this but have you considered generating buzz/promoting the audio book itself as a means to create income? Possibly expanding on your content to offer the audio book with a print edition and some other item related to your subject matter? If you outsourced the transcription of the audiobook and the editing, your time commitment would be minimal and you would then have a product to promote via google or other ppc that could be offered for the optimal $50-$200 price.

Just some thoughts, I'm curious to see what your model looks like.

I had the intention of selling a track for $1 or $1.99 to bring in hopefully some revenue so that I can advertise on some targeted e-mail lists, I found one that has 130,000 subscribers, I don't have the $200+ to buy ad space on the list yet. Also the URL would be noted too. Was going to sell (or try to sell) a $1 teaser track, and also later do a podcast or series for free.

I looked around for some information on how to do it, also trying to find someone who knows more.

Absolutely, yes. Looking to make some money to further promote the CD, through purchasing e-mail advertising and banners.

Does anyone know if you can sell a track for $1? Since iTunes has such volume.

So selling music on itunes is a mistake unless you are lady GaGa?
