Hi,
This is my first time on the website... so sorry if the questions have already been asked before.

I guess a bit about me. I am 26, I have a masters in Urban Planning. I currently work as a planner in Hong Kong. I love sport, all of it but was reasonably good at triathlon, I went to world champs as junior elite. I broke my leg badly in 2000 have had 6 operations, my last being a Total Ankle Replacement in switzerland 4 months ago. I will have to have many many more operations. I essentially want to make money to fund a great lifestyle, quit my job, but also pay for my huge medical bills (my current rehab time is 2 years! My meducal insurance now only covers operations for my ankle). I don't want to give you the wrong idea, my life is great and I live very well and I have a lot of fun. I just don't want to have to worry about massive unexpected medical bills. Oh I bought my first house when I was 16, I love property, I understand it... business is exciting but I just don't know enough not to make rediculous mistakes!

Anyway the relavent point is that I want to create a carbon fiber collapsable walking stick. The ones on the market now are crap (sorry if anyone makes them). I just am at a bit of a loss at where to start.

One of the parts I need had a patent on it, I think it has expired...

what do I do first? get a prototype designed and made? Patents? Start a company?

How do you market something when the medical industry is already so competitive so that people actually find it? How do you ensure quality control? What about getting sued?

Sorry I am just getting frustrated and floundering a bit here... I just want to get started, but not really sure how to go about doing all of this... I know you're not supposed to say it but it all seems a bit beyond me and I don't want to invest the money to just loose it all.

Anyway any help anyone can give will be very much appreciated!! As I'm sure you can tell I really need it! I just don't want to talk about it anymore, I want to do it!
