Hi all,

My name is Robert, I'm 25 and I just purchased the 4HWW last night on my Kindle after stumbling on it by accident. I've read (devoured) nearly half of it already and am beginning to build my empire and dream mini-retirements in my head already.

Truly, my main goal from all of this is going to set myself free to pursue my true muse; filmmaking. I graduated with my BA in film production in May (which makes me a well qualified waiter in LA) and am planning on attending graduate school because spending a few years with a bunch of other film junkies sounds like an amazing time. I don't want to worry about money or working while doing this.

I've already started developing a few muses in my mind's eye but will be attacking it full on in the coming weeks when I can develop a strategy for doing so. I'm going to be going through these forums for both inspiration and information.

I was wondering if there are any successful 4HWWers that would be interested in taking on a minor mentor role or just opening a line of communication.

Anyone who helps me go beyond getting my feet wet and realizing MY 4HWW will be assured a spot in a film that I make in the future. :D

Thanks for reading, best of luck to all.

Man, you can make movies! Do you realize how many people would like to have something like Tim's 4 Hour Body trailer done?

Video marketing could definitely be the way to go in your case, think about it ;-)

That's certainly something that I will do in the future. Fresh out of college, though, I don't have the equipment yet necessary for something like that (and a fully functioning equipment set up is rather pricey) but is on the horizon, no doubt.

That's a false obstacle. I live in LA, and everything you need to make a high quality online marketing video can be borrowed or rented for cheap. Seriously, run some numbers with how much you'd have to charge to do a few things like that. And while you're doing it, guess what? You're building your reel and acquiring (tax-deductible) gear.

Now, maybe you don't want to do video marketing, which is my guess. That's a totally different issue. I wouldn't worry so much about whether it's your passion, but whether it's something you can leverage into more time and/or money.

Thank you for your input. The reality is that the end goal is certainly not video marketing, but as a means of making money...well, who's to say?

A false obstacle or perhaps overblown a bit, sure. However, I don't live in LA; I live in Yuba City, the cultural black hole of the world. Renting equipment is possible in Sacramento. I will be moving to LA next year, however, and that should open up many more possibilities for me.

Are you involved in filmmaking of any sort?

Nah, I'm a musician. But I have a half-dozen friends who are filmmakers, and another hundred that are writers or actors of some stripe.

I get you on not wanting to do video marketing with your life -- I wouldn't either. But the 4HWW is about a means to an end, in my opinion. Might be worth looking into. Then again, it might not be. I don't know enough to say.
