So interesting though. I've got a mailing list with around 450 buyers on it.

I sent them an e-mail on Friday for a costume contest and the winner would get $50 worth of free stuff. Not 1 person responded despite a GREAT open rate.

I'm shocked. Even if someone just sent me a pic of them holding a pumpkin I'd be forced to give them the $50.

Sound familiar to a situation in the book, anyone?

Cheers

Maybe you should wait... what is the deadline you put on your contest ?

Some people might have taken the picture at their halloween party last night and will send it to you in a couple of days ?

Or maybe it's your email design... what software do you use to manage your list ? Do you have a screenshot of your email by any chance ?

Regards,

Fabien

Hi Fabien;

I use Aweber... the contest closes tonight at 7.

It wouldn't have anything to do with Aweber either... Or open rate (b/c it's so high) so it boils down to time and lack of commitment.

Perhaps the free stuff isn't as valuable as you thought?

Competitions are funny things but generally the least amount of effort (eg multiple choice) and high value prize get most entries.

Lol i'm not worried... just wanted to make the list more "fun"... :)

Nor should you be. Most of the time our tests are going to be wrong. 450 is still a pretty small list as they go. Once it gets up to 10K - then stuff like this will almost certainly fly.

It's amazing how often that sort of thing happens. I know I'm definitely guilty of it it, but when you're able to push through and accomplish the task the results are usually pretty great.

This happened to me last year with an emerging artists scholarship that I applied to. While I didn't win by default, the complete and utter lack of response definitely helped me snag the prize. There was a brand new huge international scholarship that I didn't apply to that I'm STILL kicking myself over. Lesson learned.
