Have a muse in mind already. Been scouting China trade/mfg. sites. Just want to know if anyone has experience in dealing with Chinese manufacturers.

Tax issues?
Import tariff issues? (especially if the mfr. will dropship)
Any other regulatory issues? (such as food, etc.)
Liability? (coverage for product liability, etc.)
Payment?
Quality control?

Any help/opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I work with China a lot. Be afraid, very afraid. I'm half joking. It's very, very tricky, the learning curve is steep....

Hello, -
I've worked in global logistics for the past 20+ years. Things you should know.
1. Imports - you should log on to the dept of commerce web site BXA (bureau of export adm)...there is info there re importing.
2. You will need a good import broker - they are worth their weight in gold. Find one who specializes in whatever product you decide on at your closest port of entry.
3. You need to become familiar with "Inco terms". These are international trade/shipping terms established by the international chamber of commerce. Your shipping terms can make or break your project. You will see when learning about them where your vendor's liability ceases; who pays freight, duties/taxes etc.
4. Depending on terms, you will need transit insurance.
5. Payment - IMHO - Letter of credit a must
6. QC - well, again IMHO, I would be right on top of them...think of all the lead painted toys they've been sending in lately and all the coats trimmed in dog fur last year that was supposed to be faux fir.

good luck!
