Hey guys,

change of plans from my last thread: (http://fourhourworkweek.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=5410), we are know looking at doing a month in Thailand in March 2011 (and skip canada, and just do europe on 2012).

I am looking at accommodation online and since it is considered 'peak season' everything is twice the price of off peak.

We are considering Koh Lanta but are looking for somewhere that is 800baht or less a night (preferably with WIFI).

This is looking pretty slim, and I was wondering if it would be best to just book a couple of nights for when we get there and try and get a better deal when we arrive (giving us the chance to barter in the hope the tourists are starting to leave?).

Does anyone who is (or has been to thailand) have any suggestions?

From my experience its much less crowded in March/April than Jan/Feb.

And yeah, thats a good idea, just go with no plans, and figure it out once you get there.

You might pre-book something, only to realize you don't like the location, etc..

Whatever you do, don't say anything bad about the King. It will land you 18 years in prison.

Thanks for the warning.

I am going with my wife and 10week old daugher, and my sister-in-law and her partner. So I was thinking of getting a couple of days accomodation in Koh lanta and using that time to head around and search out the best deal.

Yeah Tom, Lanta is gorgeous, you'll love it. It's also a pretty quiet island compared to the others, generally (and especially this season after the protests in Bangkok).

You might search for apartments, homes, or bungalows for rent and try to get something for the whole month. For example, we live on Koh Phangan now and have a really great beach-view house for less than $500 per month. You won't always find deals like these on the web though, so booking something ahead for a couple days and then searching/negotiating in person is a good idea if you can't find what you're looking for ahead of time.

It's a very slow travel season though here in Thailand, so I doubt you'll have trouble finding availabilities when you come.

That is great advice! Thanks Cody.

What are medical systems like over there? My wife is stressing cause we have a young baby and throwing the 'what if something goes wrong?' question. So looks like we are putting thailand on hold for a bit. :(

From what I've heard the medical care in Thailand is fairly solid, and inexpensive. I've heard many stories of people actually flying out there if they have any major problems, rather than staying in their home countries (US included).
