Hi.It's come to my attention that a certain website I've joined and affiliated to doesn't have a proper money making affiliate program. I see a potential for it to make mega $$$'s, and want to approach the owner's and do a Joint venture with them. But have no clue exactly how. I was going to directly e-mail them but being a JV dummy I don't want to mess it up.
Should I hire a freelance or e-lance person to do the negotiating for me? Or will they steal my idea, once getting the site owners to agree, and run off into the sunset?:D I've created a forum seeking voters for the idea, but it's like a ghost town in there! http://direct2gamers.lefora.com

You should send him a message of appreciation and kindness : tell him how good you think is product is, how much you like him and what you like about it. And don't mention any JV idea or anything yet. You need first to build a relationship.

If the guy answers that's good, you start to create a connection. Network with him on Facebook or Twitter, offering your help, on some topics. And then at some stage, once you have forged a relationship, you can start to mention the JV idea. But not before.

Well, unless you have a killer idea that will make him lots of money or give him some sort of return (fame, fortune, or the like). If you bring enough to the table, they might be willing to listen. Think of your plan of attack and how your work is going to benefit the both of you.

....approaching the owner(s) with the proposition and offering to do most (or all) of the work and giving him a decent percentage in return for allowing you to expand on his/her idea? If you present him with a solid opportunity to make substantial income for little or no work on his part and with no risk (he will be wary of anything that may reflect badly on his site), it should generate enough interest that he will at least come back with either a request for more details, or a counter proposal.

One thing tho, when promoting your idea be as vague as you can while still giving an honestly favorable description. This will protect your idea to some extent. If he comes back with a favorable reaction you can then move forward with some sort of non-disclosure agreement.

If he rejects your idea out of hand, have you considered setting up a similar site in the same niche and going forward with your idea on your own?
