Hi guys,

I'm happy to let you guys know that a project I've been working on called HiveDesk is now ready and open to the public.

HiveDesk is a web and software solution for managing remote workers. Your workers download the client software and use it to "check in" to your projects. When they do so, they will automatically send screenshot updates every 10 mins so you can see what they're working on. It will also automatically track time, so you get billed accurately and fairly.

Right now we're in our free beta phase, so anyone can sign up and bring their team to us.

Would love if anyone here could use it and give feedback. You can signup here: http://www.hivedesk.com/register

Thank you and let me know!

Looks and sounds good, but which Operating System is it available for? I have to admit, I didn't look through your entire site, but I was wondering if this was just for Windows or if it was also available for OSX and Linux.

Windows only for now. We are working on porting over to Java as we speak, so Linux and Mac support coming soon :D

Hey,

This sounds like a good option for our virtual assistant service http://www.rentasmile.com

Will be sure to give it a try.

Thanks.

I'm in the profession. Is it really necessary to take screen shots every 10 mins? If I was working for a company who watched me that closely I would find somewhere else to go.

What is your motive for such a "feature"

Hey smartlife, its actually a common requirement on many outsourcing portals like oDesk and eLance. One of the things employers have a fear of is that their employees aren't working, or are doing the job poorly/incorrectly. This is especially prevalent when you outsource to workers in another country. Getting screenshots of what your worker is working on helps to alleviate those concerns, and validate that worker's productivity.

This may be outside of the scope of the thread, but congratulations on your system - and I have some comments about the screen capture thing.

Working or doing their job isn't measured by a screen capture every X minutes.

If I were paying for it, I'd be paying for results only. I don't have the time or patience to track what people are doing all the time. Give me results, you will continue to get paid and get work. Give me shit, you won't.

I see any other way of measuring this to be detrimental. Pay for results, not for time.

Right on, can't disagree with paying for results. The problem is that outsourcing can be a tedious process; workers flake/slack/disappear, are unqualified, don't do the job correctly, etc. Sometimes, you pay and you don't get results. This also depends on the tasks you are outsourcing. Some jobs simply can't be wrapped into a per project quote. Some jobs require a bit of hand holding and training (like for industry specific VA's). That takes time and oversight.

I think you may have misunderstood the purpose of the software. HiveDesk isn't made for watching your workers all the time; if you did that, you'd end up wasting time. It does however keep workers honest and more importantly, keep you in the loop as to what they're working on by feeding you information.
