I just wanted to share my experience with whoever is interested.
After 5 months of enduring micro-managers and a really depressing work environment I asked to discuss things with my superiors and they offered me a 25% payrise.
I endured another month then asked to work a day a week from home - proving I could be twice as productive and actually worked for only a couple of hours of the day - they gave it to me.
After another couple of months the atmosphere was unbearable, I was taking out my frustration on my family. I asked to work 5 days a week from home but was refrused. I handed in my notice immediately and worked it out for 4 weeks.
On my last day in the last hour, the boss asked if I still wanted to work from home and offered me a couple of days a week from home but (as their profits were dropping) would not want me in the office for the rest of the week... A trial on his terms.
I viewed it as severance pay. For 1 month I coasted and was 4 times more productive - I measured it. But after reading Tims book I realised it was holding me back. I cut the cord.
Now I am hungry and I am more driven.
I had my own internet business for 3 years before working for those clowns and it was very successful but like Tim says - I became the bottleneck. I worked 100 hour weeks and promised I would never work so hard again - I am a recovered workaholic. I learned alot from the experience. The main being that I should never to go back to internet retail again - I was in the process of automating the business but didn't realise how far I could and should have gone.
I wish the book had been available to me then but you have to fail alot to succeed. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Your life depends on it.
