Hi Guys,

I just started a project recently of my own and would like some people to participate in it so I can get some user feedback from it. I am offering to do live training over MSN or AIM to show you how to use WordPress to build a site in 3 days provided that you have all your content and pages that you would like ready.

We will start off with how to choose a hosting account and the differences. And no we don't use GoDaddy because the number of hosting accounts they put on one server is crazy and creates loading problems. But if you want to use GoDaddy then I have no objection.

Creating an FTP account

How to pick a WordPress theme and use it because not all are built the same and some coded themes are better than others.

The plugins I use for SEO optimization, creating a sitemap, cleaning your URL etc. Also I will show you how to configure the plugins because some get a bit more technical.

Show you how to do on-page and some off-page SEO

Article writing and where to submit your articles for backlinks. Also I will show you how to properly use "alt text" in your links and how to mix it up between your pages.

Using Bookmarking sites such as tumblr, digg, etc.

If you want we can also go over keyword research if you would like and if there is time.

*all I ask for is a YouTube testimonial on whether the training was useful or not and a written testimonial so I can put on my site with your permission.

I am currently half way done with my site and currently generating content, which you can view here at

http://hillsproduction.com

So if you would like more a free training session that let me know in this thread or though my websites contact form.
I would love it if I can get feedback from 7 people!!!

Thanks

Seth

A little off topic, but I noticed you recommended not using GoDaddy because they cram lots of sites onto the same server... I use their dedicated virtual servers as they were actually recommended to me by my developers- what's your take on that? Does this get around the pitfalls you see?

Hi AlexMoen,

It really depends. If you are planning on scaling your site and are going to have a few hundred visitors a day with a lot of video's and content to upload then a dedicated server works great because you will need the extra bandwidth. But if you have a small page like a "long tail" page then I wouldn't suggest a dedicated server.

Now on to the question you asked lol. If your developer signed you up for a dedicated IP address (your own private IP address) then you should be fine because you will be the only one on that server with that IP address. Now if you didn't sign up for a dedicated IP address then you could be sharing that IP address with hundreds or thousands of sites that could effect your bandwidth.

I have seen sites that don't have a dedicated IP address and are with GoDaddy, where there are over 300,000 websites sharing the same address. It's crazy. A good hosting company will not have over 1000 websites on a server, but it also depends on the quality of the servers. If they are using generic servers then I would not choose them. For instance my website HillsProduction only has 2 sites on the current server.

If you would like to check yours or get more information on how many sites are listed on a server you can check this site out to get some data

http://whois.domaintools.com/

That site is also good if you are looking to buy domain names or looking to buy a website and need to know who to contact.

Hope this helps

Hi Seth,

I am interested in what you are offering. It sounds like you know what you're doing and I would be glad to provide a testimonial. However, I don't have a camera so the video testimonial might be a bit difficult to pull off, but I will see if I can borrow a friends camera for it.

I already know a bit about Internet Marketing. I have my first two clients that I'm creating websites for and I'll be promoting them once they are up. But I want to learn as much as I can about this field to make my business better!

I don't have MSN, but I do have AIM and Skype. I'm out of town right now, though. In a few days I'll be back home and available for the training.

How should I contact you?

Hi NickG

Great it seems like we would be able to learn from each other. For the YouTube video you do not need a camcorder which is great. All you need is a camera on your computer and I can show you how to take the video without downloading or needing any third party devices. It's easy as pie haha. If you do not have a camera then we can figure something out.

But I would definitely be glad to help you out. We can use AIM for the "live meeting". Also if you would like to contact me directly you can e-mail me at seth.hillsproduction@hotmail.com

or

You can contact me on this thread and I will follow up with you ASAP to get started.

I'm sure we'll figure something out. I have a camera on my MacBook so I may just use that.

I'll send you an email now so you have my contact info.

Speak soon!
