Hey all,

I'm looking to go somewhere soon at the end of May for a few weeks. The problem I'm running into is that everything price wise seems to skyrocket during the summer. I only have a month or so time frame to travel due to family concerns and other commitments.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to go that isn't outrageously expensive? My wife and I are going so I would like the cost total to be <$1500 total if that's still possible.

I know Tim suggests going to a major hub in like London and getting a cheap EasyJet flight to someplace else in Europe. Any other ideas?

Thanks for any help! :)
-Steve

P.S. - Sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't seem to find anything when I searched. If anyone knows of a helpful post I would appreciate being directed there.

Hard to know as I don't know where you are based. A few suggestions:

-Make something of the journey. Why not take the train to the Mexican border and make your way to Costa Rica by land?
-When searching for flights try using flexible dates www.kayak.com allows you to search +/- 3 days. Also use their 'BUZZ' service to figure out roughly where you can go for your budget.
-Hub airports are good, but often major airlines will include a leg to a smaller airport cheaper than flying to the hub. For example I am currently planning a trip to Vietnam from London. It is cheaper for me to fly return to Saigon via Hong Kong than it is to fly just to Hong Kong with the same airline. Try lots of alternatives.
-Again with hub airports, consider traveling overland. Check out www.seat61.com for some great rail ideas.
-Go somewhere in the low season. I went to Chile in May and although it rained a bit, prices were lower and we had an altogether more genuine experience.
