For a starting muse, I'd take Tim's suggestion and think about doing an "information" type product about some skill set you have. They cost nothing or almost nothing to create. Also he said it's a huge head-ache to sell things people eat.
Your first muse does not have to be the final thing you ever do to make money. I keep a notepad with me and write down product ideas as they come to me but just starting out, information products have almost no overhead costs.
Think about what you like doing and sell it. For me, it was cooking. For you, it might be something as obscure as teaching people how to do calligraphy. I don't know. Think about it. Brainstorm. This is the fun part =)
Cheers

@mcginley My advice is to read this forum inside and out for a week. The week after that you should launch your muse and get feedback from us by posting about your progress. You will only really learn by doing.

Hey kid - You aren't going to like this, but throw away your copy, get out there and live a bit first. Heck at 17 you should still be in high school, never having worked a 9-5 in your life. Heck Nobody works 9-5 any more.
Don't look over your most precious resources. Youth and time. In HS and college people spend a lot of time on their appearance. It is only after you hit 40 that you realize it doesn't take much at all for a 20 year old to look sexy (male or female) and that energy could have been spent better elsewhere.
At 17 you have so many options available to you. Free world travel? Yep, Tim did it, I did it. Spend a year abroad. All expenses paid language immersion, travel, exotic people. That is what LD is all about. Why would you develop a muse, make money, then travel? It is like the fisherman story.
The Rotary Exchange program is for students 16-18, and cost $1500 the year I did it. I brought about $300 of my own money at the time. That is peanuts dude. Your parents will spend less on food alone for the year.
The whole concept is to get the most out of live. Leverage your talents, not try to adapt something you dond't need in the first place. Living at home, saving what you would have paid in rent during college, you can take a 3 month trip over summer break every single year, and have a pretty kick ass Spring Break as well.
That is what LD is all about. Not about selling supplements so you dont have to work a 9-5. Sit back, have a pepsi and watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJew4fxHl1U). Come back in a few years.

I say go make a job for yourself, I did. I delivered newspapers, sold lemonade, started a lanscaping business and an internet business by the time I was 19. Get some work experience.

I do have a second bit of advice. Do not listen to clueless people who tell you to get a job. Tim said it best, "Living more and working less."
You are in the ideal situation to do that. So you aren't making 4 figures a month. Big deal. Without a mortgage, bills, or responsibilities, you have a huge opportunity. Time is the only resource we are all dealt with in equal quantities. Don't squander it working for pennies.
That isn't stopping you at all from grabbing a back pack, hopping Holyhead Ferry, taking the sleeping bus to Amsterdam and seeing the best museums in the world. I think that bus cost me 16 pounds when I rode it. You could spend a week in one of the coolest cities on the earth for almost nothing. You don't need a muse to pay for a trip that only costs 300 pounds.
Life isn't about working it is about living and experiencing new things.

I should have known better.
Telling you to learn how to use spell check is not being rude. It is your response that is truly ignorant and rude. Dyslexia is not an excuse not to use spell check, and in fact with the proper tools you never have to worry about spelling again.
The only help you need is to completely ignore anything muse related and learn how to live your life, not be lazy. You waste both of our time coming back with no substance.
Do yourself a favor. Do a Dreamline and ask for advice on that. Calculate your TMI and share the results here. Do a comfort Challenge and let us know how it went.
Firefox has plug-ins for spell check for writing in websites!

What makes you so righteous as to label people as "Clueless"?
Personally I think everyone should work one shitty job. have a paper route and spend one night in jail and one night on the streets?
Maybe some people don't want to do a 4 hour work week, maybe they get much pleasure out of working. that's their prerogative. Let the kid listen to everyone and make up his own mind.
as you yourself said "it is about living and experiencing new things" So let him experience a job, a paper route, a foodless night, a night in jail or what have you, it's all about experience right? Then let him figure out what he wants... not you.
So answer me this, what gives you the righteous attitude to call people Clueless?

Guys, I love your feedback and I think I too will "watch this space" and read through the forum. I am in a funny situation at present.. I am currently teaching Stand Up Paddle boarding and trying to get that Muse happening. It is almost catch 22 for me, because I have so many things that I'm in to.. SUP, Yoga, Golf, and now Kite boarding, however it all costs money.. oh and traveling. I was hoping to get across to Costa Rica this year however if I don't get a Muse.. It will have to be temp work 9-5 BORING.. (but alas, not forever)
So when you say nobody works 9-5 anymore... I guess that is once you have a muse up and running, then you don't have to work 9-5 anymore.. I will try my hardest to do as much as I can to a) get traveling again b) not go back to working a monotonous boring office job and c) read this forum for a week?!?!?!?
And I am also selling the 80% of stuff that I don't use.. so sadly my surfboard will be up for sale.
Perhaps I just need to bite the bullet and get that DVD out there.. watch this space.

omg calm everyone i just went advice and ok thank you for it, but i will defend myself(fear) from those trying to lecture me ,i have a dreamline and i am doing it i have been doing it for the past two months or so, i am very active and i am getting out ? why do you pressume cause of my age i shouldnt be thinking of a muse ? why not? also dont assume cause i am young i am missing stuff, everyone is different.
i am enjoying life and on my dreamine is traveling. this summer im doing everything i want to do first travel europe by myself or mate but he lives in the excuses and i do not.
i want to look at a muse lets say because in 1 year ill be out of education and instead of go to uni , i can start a muse and enjoy even more of the world, from sports to cultural, to breath taking art and landscapes. not only that but meet new people share tradition.
why should i wait a few years , isnt it better to get it up and running and enjoy them years even more! with better possibilties ? also saying that i am young i have to much free time and this gives me excactly time to travel, do sports juggle education and live life moments and have brilliant fun as well as finding a muse.
so please dont assume by my age and lack of experience compared to you people.
i started this for one reason help and advice and to get to know others advice not to be lectured. and yes i have worked 9 to 5 before and i hated it, so lets say help a passionate kid out so he never has to work for shit again in the medicore society.
i hope i havent offended anyone by what i posted
i am being sincere not cheeky
