I read The 4 Hour Workweek in 2007 around the same time I was building a small side business doing web design & online business development, and it absolutely changed my life at the age of 23! For the first time, Tim's book, and his writings on his blog, opened my eyes to the fact that you really don't need to follow any of the pre-established "rules" society tells us to. You can create any lifestyle of your dreams if you look for unconventional solutions and disregard the template lifestyle "rules" everyone else follows. (Couldn't meet the deadline, but I had to submit my success story when Tim ran his competition recently too to thank him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a9WpzX7Nu0 )
Ever since I chose to disregard the status quo path that's laid out for us (especially college-->grad school-->traditional career-->white picket fence) I've often shared my thoughts and the principles of lifestyle design with friends, and connected with a LOT of other cool people online that are building muse businesses, living the mobile lifestyle, and so on, but I've always wished there was a bigger push to engage twentysomethings—I always wished I could get this information into the minds of as many of my peers and younger college students as possible. FINALLY, I've had the incredible opportunity to work with 5 bloggers from the gen-y, entrepreneurship, and lifestyle niches to give college students & young professionals a platform to talk about unconventional strategies to build the lifestyle of their dreams.
Untemplater (http://untemplater.com) is a cooperative of 20+ rockin' young bloggers who are all breaking the rules in their own way. Our motto is "Work where you want, live how you want, be who you want to be!" If any other gen-y's or twentysomethings are on these boards (or if you want to help us spread the lifestyle design message to this young demographic), please lend your voice to the discussion.
And Tim, if you're reading, we'd love to host an interview with you sometime with some questions geared specifically for college students! Thank you again for all the inspiration, guidance, and wisdom!
