View Full Version : help with adwords keyword tool
When I search the keywords tool for "meal plans" it reports that at an estimated CPC of $0.17 an ad is estimated to have an ad position of 4-6. If I want an ad in the 1-3 range then I need to bid $1.77 HOWEVER, when I google for the keyword "meal plans" I see only one ad. So, even if I bid very low for this keyword (0.05) I should be able to get an ad in the 2 or 3 slot, right?

As best as I understand it, it works like this:
Bid prices are calculated on bidding competition *globally* along with how relevant your adgroup appears to be to the keyphrases it contains (this will change with your clickthrough rate over time).
Often you'll have people bidding on your keyphrases, but choosing to not show their ads in your area (eg they're just targeting their country, and you're in another country).
So if you bid the absolute minimum bid price, you should still show up in the number two spot when / where you are searching from, however you'll show up lower in other areas where there are more bidders showing ads.

why I see no ad in search result?
Whether or not someone's ads shows depends on how much they have allotted for a daily budget. If they only allot .17 cents per day and their ad shows once, and then someone clicks on it, it won't show again until the next day.
Which ads show when you google your terms doesn't give you a clear indication of how/where your ads wills how because you can't see the back end and the complicated calculations that google performs.
