So 2 years after reading the 4HWW, finally going for my first extended trip! I've done a lot of 2 and 3 week trips but they were all sort of tests for this one. (Going to Argentina and Brazil this trip for at least 3 months)
Since I run a service based business (where everything is outsourced) I do need to maintain a bit more communication then the average website owner. Here's some things I'm using to help me work while abroad.
1: Unlocked iphone with skype application. I will have cell service in Argentina, using pre paid minutes for cheap local calls. Using skype I can make international calls for super cheap too (yes I tested the quality last time I was there).
2: One or two days a week I'll be spending a solid 4-5 hours at an internet cafe to get caught up.
3: I've set up my business toll free number and voicemail service through ringcentral.com. This is like a VOIP answering system, it emails me voicemails (which i can check on my iphone). It also emails me PDF's of any faxes i receive. To the client it seems like your typical professional phone sytem with extensions, etc.
4: I have an outsourced bookeeper who I've been working with for 8 months who takes care of everything (including personal bills and invoicing clients). Awesome
5: My VA takes care of everything else including calling me for emergency's, forwarding emails to service providers, my project management, etc.
With all that said and done I truly need only work about 10-15 hours a week!
