Hello,
Finding good, nice-sounding muse name with an corresponding domain is a hard task and it's getting even harder as time passes. Anyway, let's say that I have decided to call my muse "green trees" (or any other "<adjective> <noun>" phrase: "fighting wizard" "strong man" etc). Also, let's say that both greentrees.com and green-trees.com domains are free, but at the initial, testing, phase you want to buy only one domain. Which one would you chose: the one with or without the hyphen?

Thank you

If you have the choice, buy without the hyphen.

Agree w/ Webgal, but buying domains is expensive, usually $1000's. Have you considered other Top Lvl Domains (TLD's), such as .net, .us, .ws (website, a new generic .com), .biz, et cetera. If you have a bunch of money to blow, and plan on building a good size business that'll be around for the long haul, maybe .com is the way to go, but for typical muses, I don't think a different TLD will cost you too many a sale, since people no longer trust .com's anyways. If you're looking for something a bit more trustworthy, you might even want to consider a .org.

TLD's without hyphens are better than those with hyphens.

Don't buy a hyphenated domain in the domain without hyphens is active (People will forget your hyphens and you'll give the non-hyphenated domain free traffic)

There are still decent .com names if you dig hard enough. Do brainstorming, use a thesaurus, and spell things wrong (which I hate but it is a necessary evil). This topic is discussed here:

I recently purchased an available seven-letter .com name for $49.
