I wish I could have gone to Burning Man about 10 years ago, when it was more of a creative culture than a consumer culture.
A lot of friends that used to go have become disillusioned. I bet is still is fun - just make sure you create more than you consume - that's the spirit!

You, too, will get old.
and when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young,
prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.
I can assure you there is nothing consumer about Burning Man at all. Be careful lest you cut off your own nose to spite your face.

I've heard similar sentiments from other creative-field friends (product design, website design, fashion). I heard it's become quite commercialized, though I still want to check it out for the experience.

i was thinking of going--
looked at some of the videos and it turned me off a bit-- the people i saw seemed to be in a competition to see who could out freak the freaks -- it reminded me of this Learning Channel show I saw about this artist who kept trying to out-do his previous year's shock until finally he drank urine on stage.... one of the people who commented said, "there's only one thing i can think of to top that..."
im guessing those people are a minority in burning man -- overall it does seem pretty cool

See you all in a week
