View Full Version : Yaaaaaawn.
Gosh I'm bored with this forum.
What has happened to it? It was such a short while ago that I had to check out the forum the first moment of my day and spent at least one hour on replying to good topics.
Now I can run trough it in 5 minutes without any desire to reply to the few stupid and allready answered questions.
Can we kick out the bottom 80% of the users and turn this forum to invitation only?
This forum used to keep me on my toes.
I'm going back to bed.

Hey Sven! We need to get back on track with our plan. Most new people here have ignored Tim's main advice on LD to focus on the least important aspect.
...what I recommend will seem impossible and even offensive to basic common sense - I expect that... If you try it, you'll see just how deep the rabbit hole goes, and you won't ever go back
The my pretty pony forum is down the hall between the doors labeled Jones and FAIL.
Kam, I agree about the plan...I stare at the link every day/every other and wonder...what's up...where'd we drop the ball?

Funny. I am not the only one. The link sits on my front page, in the top right corner.

Yeah I had high expectations for the forum after reading the 4HWW and was quite dissappointed.
I think to kick-start it again we need an "Ask Tim!" thread similar to what Richjerk done on his forum last year.. some really quality information was given and it provided a lot of value to the members.
As for invite only, no point restricting the talent or taking away learning opportunities from others but perhaps been more strict with posting guidelines as a lot of people seem not to follow what has already been stated in 4HWW.

Amen to Sven for speaking up. Anybody wants to "take back this forum" where we actually start learning from each other again count me in. Private message me if we can actually get this off the ground.

I have an idea: instead of us all sitting around bitching and moaning, let's contribute some good content. Certain people seem upset that the new folks are asking "stupid" questions, but I haven't seen much contribution to the FAQ threads, which might help cut down on that. That misses the larger point, though, which is that if you want to see these forums as a source of good discussions, start some. Who else will?

Guys, do contribute to the FAQ thread. And jump start some good discussion.
Well, why don't the faq treads get filled?
What's in it for me*(not Sven but the one who is supposed to fill the faq)? Basic marketing question.... The people that have answered most questions are tired of answering them, they just stop. There is no fun, no sense of accomplishement there.
I guess that is what's missing for me. Fun, sense of accomplishment, learning stuff when I read and write.
All those requests for quick fixes that show a total lack of research... I think there should be a "read this first" rather than faq.
It should contain.... Wait, I'll start it, Webby, would you please edit it if needed and make it sticky if you agree?

Well, for the people that have answered all those questions over and over and are bemoaning the death of this forum and the influx of newbies cluttering up the forums with stupid questions, contributing to an FAQ (or Read This First, or whatever) sticky is a chance to alleviate some of that frustration. I'd say that's what's in it for them. Other ideas are obviously welcome :)

Its a dead set no brainer........
No sigs = no backlinks = no possibility of sales = anyone already on there way goes elsewhere......no classifieds section, no are ot adveritse sklls to each other or network with joint ventures............
hmmmmmmmm wonder why the forum strugles......I pointed this out months ago and it fell completely on deaf ears....
The book was great ,,,,, the forum was good,,,,now its not.....fix it , it is broken, or it will die
I really dislike negativity, but its crunch time for this forum...
If you want to sell stuff, go elsewhere. Frankly, I get tired of people trying to pimp their MLM for the latest series of Ubervitamins.
Sigs? Only a way to link to that MLM for Ubervitamins you are pimping.
Exchanging knowledge is good...when there's knowledge to exchange. New members don't have any, but instead seem to sign up here expecting to be handed either a complete muse or buckets of gold coins so they can take their mini-retirement to Thailand. Maybe they can book the Kwai Chang Caine Suite at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel.
It's been my experience on other forums, both as a mod and member, that many new members never take the time to read the "read this first", FAQ or conduct any sort of rudimentary search for the topic they're asking about. Or if they do, they have no concept of how to search for information, or give up if the one search-term they used doesn't come back with any hits.
Of course, this only points out the results from the people who DO post after not searching, reading, etc., because those that successfully do it never seem to post questions that have already been answered....so this then begets a "If a tree falls in the forest" type Koan, for if they don't post because they got the answers, how do we know they really searched?

Yeah no sigs, which is basic to every forum, is a killer. Sigs at least add another incentive to post.
You can make them where you have to have at least 10 posts to have one to stave off the crazies.

I agree that this forum needs some signatures and some links allowed. I think that the newbie who browse the forum would see benefit in links also.
Its a win-win for everyone. It is reasonable to start to include signatures or links after something like 30 or 40 posts. It will kill the spammers desire to overrun the forum, but reward the people who actually contribute.

Signatures here would turn this site into Warrior Forum.
Signatures would be for the readers that want quick fixes.
If they take a closer look they can visit the writers home page... That option IS available

Even the mean moderator gets an endearing sort of nickname. It almost makes me sound sweet.
Good discussion. Carry on.

Conner, its a no brainer. Give people and incentive to post.
If people are interested in the ideas, there shouldn't be a need for incentive to post.
