Hey everyone!

I need a bit of help, and I'm not sure of the best way of going about this, but I'll try this method anyhow! :)

I have a name I really like for my product.

The issue is, that although I really like the sound of it when it's actually spoken, I can't tell if people can actually READ it and pronounce it right.

So here's what I'm going to do...

I'll write the name how it is "branded" or written out, and then I'll post the phonetic pronunciation of the word after it. In between the "Branded" and the phonetic, I'll put a big blank space so you can't be influenced by the phonetic pronunciation first.

Let me know if you read the "branded" name right the first time, or if you needed help with the phonetics.

The branded name is: "KCal"

Blank Space to follow (phonetic pronunciation below blank space)

(intentional blank space)

(intentional blank space)

Phonetic pronunciation:

"KCal" Should sound like "Kay-Kahl"

Did you get it the first time, or is "KCal" to hard to read and pronounce correctly without "hearing" it first?

Thanks for your help! :)

I got it right. It's catchy. Just a thought, if there is confusion about the pronunciation, I think you could solve it by putting a hyphen between the K and the Cal. I'm not sure if this works because I don't know the product but it's a thought.

Good Luck!

I pronounced it right but also think a hyphen would eliminate any confusion.
The bigger question to me is will it convey what the product is to your audience?
When I heard the name what came to my mind is Potassium-Calcium. But I'm in the fitness/nutrition side of things.
If things are too cryptic it can be a disadvantage.
But I think the name's fine.

Vagabond, InTN, seven, dutty, and RichB,

Thanks for your help!

I've taken your suggestions and added a hyphen between K and C.

The new name is K-Cal!

And so it is!

KCAL is a CBS-affiliate television station in California. Just thought you'd want to know ...
