This is my first posting after reading many over the last few weeks. I am a lawyer who wants to get out of the rat race. Reading 4HWW has really inspired me to find a muse. I want to make an instructional video/DVD for certain legal topics, like cross-examination, closing statments, etc. I don't know anything about filming though.
Does anyone have any suggestions on learning how to make these instructional DVD's. I saw another blogger post on the www.paullawrenceproductions.com. However, I have not seen any reviews and want to do what I can without paying for this instructional DVD that instructs on instructional DVD's.
Is this too narrow a muse??
Thx

Is there a college or school nearby that has a media program. For a $100 you can probably find some students to setup lighting, backdrop and film the DVD for you. I'd suggest practicing your lecturing part, coming up with your content. I would have others work with the media aspect. Lighting can make or break your DVD in that is often what makes them look professional...
Personally I would ask yourself if when you were first starting out if you would have found videos on your topics, "cross-examination", "closing statements", etc intriguing and been willing to purchase them. If so what qualities would want in the product.
I think it has potential, especially if you've had a relatively successful career to lend credibility to what you present in your DVDs.

I live in Southern California and checked out the website you mentioned. It is a great website but a bit different than I intended. As Tim suggests we go deep and narrow, my intended market is lawyers and law students with instructional DVD's and books on areas of practice like closing arguments, cross-examination, etc.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been looking into the same questions, although for a different video product. I did as someone else suggested on my thread, to go to mandy.com, and request bids for the making of a three-hour course. So far the bids have come in between $3,600.00 and $5,000.000. That's a lot of capital, frankly, and production costs are never factored in to Tim's number crunching in the book, so I don't know how the yoga-for-rock-climber broke even unless she's taking many months of sales to recover those costs.
