When I have more time I'll post all the details; for now I just wanted to offer some inspiration for those who are trying to get things off the ground with their muse(s).
I started my project around the first week of January, offering a weekly stock market timing signal website. The concept is simple and has been done by about 20-30 others for decades. So all I did was make a better mousetrap, per se'.
The site is free and will remain that way until the end of the year. I did, however approach a company that works with financial advisors letting them know of the service and that we could partner on a deal that would make it available to a limited number of their customers and split the monthly proceeds 50/50.
They were interested so I wrote a sales letter, recorded a couple of videos, a single audio, and he sent the info to his list of about 500 subscribers.
17 reserved spots and 9 have already begun as paid subscribers with tomorrow being the first day of 'official' launch.
This partnership cost me $0.00, about 4 hours of time and will have 0 hours of ongoing support.
Total monthly profits will be over $1,000 assuming the early bird subscribers only stay aboard. If all 17 who reserved spots (due to a tiered pricing schedule where only the first 10 get a deal) will be $2,400/mo.
If there's interest I can supply a link to the sales letter and videos. But mostly I just wanted people to know that this can be done. Very little work and a couple thousand per month.
Best of luck to all,
Jay

The power of the JV is right there in front of you, everyone. That is awesome news!!
Jaywenk, could you clear up one question for me? You noted that "the site is free and will remain that way until the end of the year." Does that mean that the basic site in free and that you are making money on the backend using your subscriber benefits?
Some more detail about that would be REALLY useful:)

The site is a proprietary investment system that is really designed to help non-professional investors get better results. The jv was to allow a very limited (30) professional advisors get access to the system for about $109/mo for the first 10, $218/mo for next 10, and $329/mo for the last 10.
http://beta.smarterthanwallstreet.com/ is the beta version of the service. I'm making it free to build a subscriber list and plan on making it a paid subscription site in 2010 for $89/mo. That price will be for non-professionals only.
At this point the only money being made is on this JV.

I joined Jay's list and have enjoyed the smarterthanwallstreet emails I have been getting every Sunday night. I have yet to invest per his directions because he says don't buy on his recommendations "mid cycle".
I will test first, invest second. :)
Jay, if you can take my advice I sent you in a PM when we first talked, you my friend will do VERY well with this. $1,000 a month will be chump change to what you will be getting if you do what I advised.
Always remember though, test first.
Good luck. Let me know if you need anything buddy!!

Wow! Awesome news Jay. I had just started coming to this board when you first posted. To know that a product can be turned into profit so quickly is more inspireing then the pessimism that I so often find here.
It makes me want to quit wasting my time with everything else and get back to work!

All I can say is get serious man. Do not count your chickens before they are hatched.
I let this thread go without even looking at your site until today, I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and the chance to fix any problems. you have a long way to go before anyone in their right mind would spend even $1 with you.

There are paid professionals using the service right now. How is this counting chickens before they hatch? About $2,000 is being generated monthly.
So I guess I'm a little confused by your comments.
I own two million dollar businesses in the offline world; people gladly pay me for my services, so I hope I'd have a pretty good idea of what my market is willing to pay for the type of services I provide.
Any constructive feedback is appreciated.
Jay
