Has anyone tried selling ebooks?
I have an idea for ebook which will offer 25-30 career tips that relate to my current career/expertise however most e-books I see online sell for under $10 which will not work for the Google Adwords scenario since I am looking at about $10 in clicks to generate a sale. I thought about charging more however not sure if people will be willing to pay $25-30 for a 30-40 page ebook. Has anyone tried something similar?

Sounds like a good opportunity to create into a free report to get peoples e-mail addresses in a list. Then, make a 'bigger and better' offer, that you market to the people on your list.
I'm not so sure that PPC is the way to go anymore. I haven't had much success with it.

Yes i have and it is very successful if your ebook is of real value to lots of people.
Let me give you two examples, but first all Newbies need to understand adwords is only one promotion method. This could be an ebook but it wouldnt sell much or for a lot as all this information is out thier, it just takes monthsto years to learn or find out through trial and error. So i could probably sell it for $5 and sell 50 per month.
But what you got to understand is you need to show your customers you want to sell value ebooks that you have really good products. /Its a bit like a profit tunnell. Give them some good stuff for free, sell them some better stuff real cheap, sell them some great stuff for $30- $50 , then sell them the best products for $97+
Here is 12 Ideas For Free Or Low Cost Effective Promotion and yes its good, but its the the free stuff. So the stuff I charge for must be much better. Get the jist.
1 Get a bumper sticker with your website
2 Develop a group of free your low cost very useful products and include your advert in it and give them away through forums and groups
3. Use these good items to give away and to generate email lists
4 Have some drop cards and drop flyers made up and leave them on tables on bulletin boards, on windscreens at the gym and anywhere else appropriate.
5 Write useful articles and submit them to ezines, with your links of course
6 Review articles in ezines with your link in your signature
7 Post useful, friendly and genuinely threads and responses on forums with your signature as your link
8 Offer an exchange of links to other web sites. Not too many – SEO will be affected by too many mutual links.
9 Regularly run a poll on your website
10 Have a Blog of everything you do to make money and whether it was successful or not
11 Submit your articles to digg
12 Use parts of your articles to answer questions on Yahoo Answers and all the other answer sites
To see the stuff i charge $10 for try www.autoincometoday.com/clickreview/index.html
To see the stuff i charge $97 for try www.autoincometoday.com/maverickmm/index.html
Most people wont buy the $30 product till they try your free and cheap info or unless they are referred by a trusted friend. Only a few will try your $97 product until they are referred or they have tried your mid range products. Unfortunately some of the expensive products are where the really big money is actually made. Why, becausse the competition is minimal.
As for capturing peoples emails, yes having a list of trgeted purchasers is extremely valuable. Giving away ebooks is an extremely effective tool for gathering email lists.
Then sending well scripted offers to targeted email lists should result in 1-5 sales per 100 people, depending on your reputation and cost of the product. I recently sent one out only to exisitng customers and because they like what i sell them i got 7 sales per 100 recipients which is a record for me and certainly above industry expectations. But if i was to send that to any email list in that niche i could probably expect 1-5 sales per 100 as i have no reputation with lots of those customers. It could be really great or it could be garbage.

Thank you for the replies.

Hi Eric,
We use Payloadz to deliver our e-book which is slightly more expensive than a normal ebook @ £25. We're very happy with the service we get and we pay on a per-transaction basis.
What we found when we researched the other ebooks in our field was that a look of space was taken up with pretty pictures/large fonts etc, whereas ours actually has tools/workbooks/useful links/resources and so on, which makes its price sustainable. Plus it's a very niche market! :)
I know it is possible to set up auto-delivery with Aweber (we have an account) but to be honest our experience is that due to the double opt in, we get lots of complaints from customers who haven't got their product therefore Payloadz is a good solution.
Hope that helps,
C.

I have sold ebooks to the tune of over 200 a day. That has dropped some now but I know of a few that are consistently selling over 1000 a day.
Consider clickbank or paydotcom whether you are selling your own others or trying to get affiliates to sell for you.

200 ebooks sold per day or $200 worth of ebooks sold per day?
Impressive either way, but just trying to understand what you intended to say:)

Sorry ... I meant over $200 profit selling other peoples ebooks. It has dropped quite a bit but I am off on other projects.
To elaborate you may want to create your own info product. That is currently on my to do list ... once created try to find some JV partners and drive affiliates to market for you. There are a few great courses out these that teach you how to create your own info products.

I've sold lots of ebooks, mostly other people's, over the years... Its not really that hard if you just stick with it... but the problem is... if you don't keep your effort going, you stop making sales...
I think what others have outlined here on the methods of building a list, etc... is the best advice. Don't try to sell your ebook as an ebook alone... Its not very cost effective and quite likely you will lose money buying those customers.
One of the guys I am coaching took my advice and checked out the site I'm about to give you.... and then worked with me for some specific details and as a sounding board.... and has been doing VERY well.
Here is the site... You'd probably do well to buy this program as Ryan is a good guy, has great products, and is well known in IM (plus he lives here in Austin like me :) ).... BUT, even if you don't buy the program... read the sales page, watch all the videos, and you will do very well.....
go here now... read... watch.... and most importantly... TAKE ACTION!

by the way, It sounds like you have a good niche if you have expertise to offer.
OH, and if you don't think there is a way to create a membership site for your niche/industry... 99% chance you are wrong :) ...I know there is a good membership site waiting for you to create it. We could figure it out... there is a way... just have to be creative and provide great value.
Make it a great day!

Ive got an ebook that i recently wrote, its a draft copy of a much bigger package that I am working on. Most newbies in this forum will find it a very useful package.
You can have it for your own education, to sell or give away as an op-tin freeby, but its 100% copyrighted and your not allowed to modify it at all. Its 24 pages in pdf format.
Dont use my link to give it away or sell it , you must put it on your own server.
After about 50 downloads i will be removing it .
Here is whats included:
http://www.autoincometoday.com/contents.jpg
There are affiliate links in it. Just ignore them. The intention of this post is to provide newbies with free information to help them. The two pdf ebook links within it are also direct downloads with no opt in.
Enjoy.
The direct download link with no opt in is

Sorry but you are very wrong on that one. Its a pdf ebook file sitting there for you to download immediately with no optin . just click onthis link and the 182KB pdf file downloads.
This ebbok was written for a completely differnet purpose then posting it here and it would be unreasonable to expect me to modify 14 pages of contnet just to make a helpful forum post.
Again enjoy it for its free content, ignore the links except the two free ebooks if you want them. They have no opt in either. Just straight downloads. Enjoy!"

I created the eBook and set up a website. So far I got 300 visitors from Adwords and no buyers.
Please let me know what you think about the concept and the website.
