I want to sell a product that is not yet currently sold in the US, and is manufactured in China. This would be similar to the "French Shirt" example in 4 Hour Workweek, but this product is not yet sold in the US....

I do not have a background in product sales, does anyone know if I could possibly negotiate an exclusivity agreement to minimize competion from potential future US resellers? I am a start-up, not an established reseller etc...

I suppose I could "brand" this product with my own private label name, and have the factory in China package it accordingly...this may give me an "first to market" edge for a while at least....

Any advice would be appreciated!:)

unfortunatly you wont be able to do this I don't think. exclusive product usually dont remain exclusive as other Chinese manufactures will copy it and flog it if its successful.

Some of the most successful businesses are based on copying someone elses idea that is successful and taking their market share.

For example. McDonalds spends loads of money every year researching locations for a new resturant. Once they have a lcoation Burger King open one up right next door. Simple and effect way of finding a prime location.

I think it could be worth becoming the Burger king and simply copying other muses that definalty work.....
