I need to get a newsletter and autoresponder into my muse site I'm building and wanted to see if there were any recommendations.

I know Tim mentioned aweber and that looks ok, so does getresponse.com

Any one pleased or not pleased with either? Anything to look for? I could do a simple newsletter cheaper than either of these but I think the full blown autoresponder is worth the $$$, especially so I can automatically send attachments to those that sign up rather than having to send a link to a file.

I am a complete idiot when it comes to programming and software but i can tell you that I have been 110% happy with aweber. i had to stumble through a slight learning curve, but customer support has been great and the service is easy to understand and implement once you get it down. which, btw, does not take long at all...

I've messed with several desktop solutions and eventually settled on aweber.

Go for it - their tutorials are good too

Cheers

Aweber all they way!

ISP's get very nervous about mass-mailings from desktop/server type software like mailloop.

Aweber works with all major ISP's, and companies like AOL to ensure their email deliverable rates are the best in the industry. It has one of the best delivery rates to major ISP's which is very important to ensure your message is getting through.

Plus you get unlimited autoresponders, messages you can send, ad tracking, awesome stats (how many clicks, bounces, opens, etc.) and the RSS broadcast feature is pretty sweet.

I have used Get Response.com for over a year now based on a report that said that their deliverability is better than Aweber. Aweber I think though is the industry leader.

Either way you are looking at around $17-20 per month which is either a lot or dirt cheap depending on how well you use them.

One caution I would give though is that you can find autoresponder scripts that you can run on your web host for free but they are a bitch to setup and maintain and the deliverability can be bad. Pay the money and get something worth using easily

I would agree with this. I debated between GetResponse and Aweber a few months ago -- but most of the "internet guru's" preferred Aweber due to better deliverability. Their service seems to get past most of the spam filters -- and delivers messages quickly, too.
