I noticed in The Four Hour Work Week Tim recommends contacting the SRDS website for acquiring lists of magazine and company customers. SRDS sells a book for $731 after Shipping and Handling for companies who would have those lists. Does anyone already own a copy? Would like to rent it to me? Sell it to me at a discount? Or does anyone know where it might be gotten cheaper?
Thanks,
Greg
Probably depends on the kind of adresses you require.
You may be able to get them through the chamber of commerce, or as I was able to do: telephone directory... First from a cd and later from websites. The latter did take some work though. getting it from the screen to the database was laborious. For me and my target group it was worth it. Oh, these were for snailmail. I do not know about sources for email.

Here in the U.S. SRDS is available at the library in the reference section. You can sometimes get last year's copy on ebay or craigslist.
You can also post a question about how to get an older SRDS from this board

I looked on ebay already. I live in Indonesia so the library is out. I'll try craiglist.
Thanks

hey buddy
i would not recommend you to buy a list.
Build your own, it is so simple:
1) create a website whose goal is to capture email addresses of prospects who want to download your FREE report, your FREE eBook, your FREE demo software, a discount COUPON, whatever you can create to establish yourself as an expert of your niche market
2) build an email capture form using AWEBER
3) run google adwords campaign (but you MUST know how to use Adwords), install the google adwords keyword code on your email signup form THANK you page
4) track which keywords are generating sign-ups and delete the non-converting keywords
5) build an Aweber autoresponder for your prospect
There is so much to learn in terms of how to use "double opt-in", permission based email marketing that i can not go into details here, but I have outlined here above the key steps.
If you master this process, you will know exactly what your prospects have been exposed to, and you will not have to buy external customer lists that you are not 100% sure what they have seen, or for how long they have not been exposed to any sort of permission marketing
hope this helps
ciao

Sounds like it might be good advice but then I wonder why Tim put the SRDS in his book if he wasn't intending for us to be using it?

This might sound bad, but I don't think Tim ever used that company or sent out a single direct mail piece (or took out a magazine ad for that matter). For years I have sent out 2000-4000 a month, and never purchased a mailing list.
There are far better sources. I am not going to go into detail here, but let me know here or by PM who are you trying to mail to and how many addresses do you need.
