After about a month, and $100 in to my muse, I was on the verge of what surely would have been a premature give up not having put forth nearly the effort required to make a muse a success. And then it came in--an order. The first order. Now the store is nearly break even. Tracking it back to my Ad Words campaign, it came off of a keyword group with a 1.05 CTR and 4 total clicks. Blind luck perhaps, statistically irrelevant most likely. But as small a token as it may be, it has renewed my spirits and made me think "maybe this can actually work after all."

It occurs to me that the real trick in all this is not how to write ad copy, set up a web store, or get people to the store, it's simply staying motivated to take action. Getting off your butt and simply following the directions laid out in Tim's and various other guides on how to set up web stores--especially when there is no boss or other force than your own self to keep you going. The path is laid out in front of you, but can you conquer apathy and laziness to follow it for long enough.

Persistence is the key. The others are necessary ingredients.

Starting is always the easiest. Finishing is the hardest.

Amen brother. I found it amazing that no 5-figure paycheck has ever in my life felt as significant nor as exciting as the time I woke up to my first Paypal email with a subject reading "Notification of payment received". It's amazing that a passive $60 (or whatever your product costs) can trump any large paycheck given in exchange for your time.

Keep pushing.
