View Full Version : Testing my gaming muse

After reading some really nice recent info in this forum from folks like AntonTheKhan, BlackHat, dvdwish and others, I finally got off my butt and created a test site for my muse. It's an e-book/audio/video package to be delivered electronically to help people get started in the video games industry. I actually have years of experience in the industry to share as I've been pretty successful. And I was curious to try my hand at one of those long form sales letters as a writing exercise.
I used Weebly to get up and running quickly, so I know it looks pretty amateurish. And I am running a small AdWords campaign starting tomorrow to test 4 different ads and about 40-50 search terms. I set the max PPC at $.20 with a max of $50/month.
I would love any thoughts on the site or the content. In total I probably spent several hours the other day on the sales letter and an hour or two tonight creating the website and signing up for Google AdWords/Analytics.
Thanks!
Chris

Nice idea. The ebook isn't about setting up a sweat shop in Mexico or India is it?

Haha! Well there is certainly money to be made in game outsourcing. But no sweat shops, I promise. For the record, in the past year I've worked with small gaming companies in China and Ukraine, and they are all very happy to have the steady work even at their competitive prices.
And anyway, that is all way too advanced for your average college kid who is just trying to get a job testing video games.

Here are some stats for the first 24 hours.
Total for all 4 groups I am testing:
Impressions: 908
Clicks: 2
CTR: .22%
Ave. CPC: $.19 (I set the max at $.20)
Ave. Position: 4.6
I had to redo all four ads today because the URL in the ad didn't match the URL I was sending them to. I was trying to test an alternate URL, but I guess they don't like that:)
Also, I have lost about 10-20% of my keywords as they have been increased to $.30-.50 per click.
For three of my ads, almost all of the impressions have come from content. And the fourth ad has had them mostly come from search.
But I've only spent $.38 to find this out so far, and it's my first experience with Google AdWords/Analytics. So it's enlightening to say the least.
Any thoughts after looking at the data?

So I've been getting some decent traffic on the test site while I am trying out Google AdWords. In fact, over 55% of the traffic is from fourhourworkweek.com:)
Any thoughts on the site from those of you who were kind enough to visit?

I think that anyone who read your post would click the link. You would be wise to toss out all of the data related to 4HWW links. We aren't your customers or target market, just curious about what you are doing.
