Hi All,

I just started reading tim's book on time waster and time consumer and empowerment failure.

I work in a call centre for a major electronics company. My Job is to be on the phone 9 - 5, answering repeated enquiry, chasing up missing product from a shipment, selling company's product, preparing sales report, preparing stock report, and if there is no call coming in I will just waste my time on the net browsing aimlessly and reading all sort of cnn.com, news.com, etc.

What would be your guys advise if you were in my position where you are the time waster, time consumer, and empowerement faillure.

Tim's tip is good but I found them not applicable in my situation. I don't have someone that I can delegate this task to and I can't avoid not answering email. I have to look at email everyday and everyhour just in case a problem pops up and if I don't do that I would not be doing my job

Cheers,

Herms

Hi I'm in a similar situation (job) and the solution is easy... if you can't apply the principles of time liberation either accept the situation get out of it ;)

However your choice depends on several things that only you can determine:
- Can you easily find something else on which you can apply the principles?
- Do you need the time to set up a muse or just the money?
- Do you have enough money saved to make the change now?
- Any other reason keeping you at your current job for the time being?

If your internet usage isn't monitored how about spending all this free time to create a muse? A guy whos autobiography i read wrote the thing on the loo while at work.

You could litteraly do it all from work. Set up outsourcing etc. Even if your internet usage is monitored theres very easy ways around this.

Obviously this isn't the most ethical thing to do. But then again, since when was capitalism ethical? Everyman for himself im afraid old boy.

Good luck!`

Either get smart or get out. By get smart, I mean use that paid time to better yourself and your financial situation. If you spend 20 solid minutes a day on up a stream of passive income, you will be there in no time. Anticipate failure in your plan. Failure is the best way to learn (aside from having a high power mentor, and they are hard to come by).

I would say the best thing to do would be to just get out though. Call center work is mind numbing. It makes you lethargic and slug like. You said it yourself that you just waist time. You are surrounded by people with less initiative then you. They will pull you down. If 9 out of 10 people say the sky is pink, you can shout yourself red in the face that it is blue and still be wrong. That kind of crappy environment is just not conducive to living the 4HWW. Look at your boss, at his boss. Do either of them seem truly alive? Do they have any charisma at all? Start by putting yourself in the proper environment.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of your reply. I'm currently trying to finish all the repetitive task that I do within 2 hours of my working day and try to fill in the rest of the hour with setting up my muse finding all the information.

I understand that I have to move away from my current position, when my situation improves then I can start looking for some other opportunities

Cheers,
